Dagestan is a small country, but unique in its kind. There are many beautiful natural monuments. The republic is located between the Caspian Sea and the Caucasian mountain range (Greater Caucasus). More than 6 thousand rivers flow through the local territory. Many of them relate to mountain streams. They have a rapid current, rocky shores. Such a river is located in the Tabasaran district. It is called Hanag. Its channel runs along the mountain slopes. In one of the sections there is a sharp descent, in which water rushes down a seething stream, forming the Khuchninsky waterfall.
Name and location
As mentioned earlier, this waterfall is formed on the river. Hanag. It is located just a kilometer from the center of the Tabasaran district, near the village of Khuchni. It is thanks to the village that the waterfall got its name. However, it is not the only one. Many call it Hanagi, by the name of the river.
Description
Khuchninsky Falls is a cascade with two degrees. The first has a height of about 3 m, and the second is much higher, about 15 m. At its foot a small body of water has formed, where it is pleasant to soak in the purest water. The fact that many tourists come here is evidenced by the rock inscriptions that they leave. Their essence consists mainly of greetings and wishes. These tourists, of course, not only from Dagestan and the entire Russian Federation, but also from other post-Soviet countries.

Khuchninsky Waterfall is a unique and beautiful place. Those who come here are charged with energy, gaining strength and, of course, impressions. The blame is the heady clean mountain air. From the waterfall to the Hanag River, a small stone bridge is laid, standing on which you can admire the scenery.
Also a popular tourist destination is the fortress, located near the waterfall. In addition to cultural excursions, visitors arrange walks in the nearby forests, collecting dogwood, nuts, and rose hips, depending on the season. And those who climb into the place where the water falls can get a whirlpool effect. Thanks to the picturesque landscapes of these places, tourists called the Khucheninsky waterfall second Switzerland.
A hotel complex and a cafe were built especially for visitors to relax near the waterfall. And those who do not want to stay in it spend the night in tents in a nearby meadow. They fry kebabs, sunbathe, bathe.
How to get there
Khuchninsky Falls has a fairly convenient location. Getting to him is easy. It is enough to go from Derbent by city bus to the village of Khuchni. And further on request: if there is heavy luggage, then you can catch a taxi, and if you are light, it is quite possible to get on foot, knowing the way. You can also go this way in your own car. The distance is about 60 km. Tourists who travel in large groups are advised to rent a bus.
