Characteristics of Pumpkin Heads
Patterns of pumpkin-head dolls differ from other species in the number of parts for making the head. These heroes are characterized by a certain tailoring and, accordingly, the shape of the resulting element. The head is made round in the form of an even ball or with a convex nose, and the pattern of this part looks like a petal. Usually four or six pieces make such petals.
Materials and Tools
To make patterns of pumpkin head dolls, you need the following:
- Thin paper (millimeter or any other).
- Pencil.
- Ruler.
- Scissors.
You can also take a sample, template or photo of the finished product that you want to repeat. To sew an interior doll, you will need:
- The fabric is beige or white for the head and torso.
- Dyes to give a flesh-colored white fabric (tea, coffee can be used).

To sew the product you will need to make the following parts from paper:
- Petal for sewing the head (4 or 6 pcs.).
- Torso (2 pcs.).
- Hand element (4 pcs.).
- The shape of the half legs (4 pcs.).
This minimal set is presented in the following illustration. Depending on the desired proportions of the doll, you can change the scale of the individual details as you need. It is easy to take several other forms of limb and trunk elements. If necessary, make them more elongated or, conversely, plump. Bends in the knees and elbows are usually sewn, although some do these parts separately, which takes longer.
Below is another pattern. On it, the shapes of the arms and legs are more realistic. There is an element of the foot that will be sewn between the two elements of the foot. There is a detail of the eye that is sewn onto the head. The space is filled with padding polyester. The eye will turn out to be voluminous, although this is not necessary at all. It is enough to draw eyes on the plane of the head itself. Choose what suits you best.
If you want to make a tilda pumpkin head doll, any of the above patterns can be used. Tildes have a specific appearance (photo below) and are more often performed with flattened heads. If you want to get the shape of a ball, sew from 4 parts in the form of even petals or with the corner of the nose.
The detail of the head with the nose is shown in the text below, but you can refine any petal by independently painting in the center of the left side of one part and in the second part the second - the shape of the nose you want. Work with the finished pattern
In order for you to get a neat pumpkin head doll, the pattern must be smoothly built. The easiest way is to use a ready-made template. Take the option you like and print it to the desired scale. If you don’t have a printer at hand, you can carefully translate the image from the monitor screen by attaching glass to it.
Based on the finished contour drawing, you can create your own version, slightly changing the proportions of the details.
How to make a pattern yourself
First, decide how many individual elements you will sew your character. The body may consist of one part, or all parts are performed separately and then stitched together. The easiest way to make a head in the form of a ball is to use a piece of elastic nylon, for example, part of golf or tights. In this case, you will quickly make a pumpkin head doll. Patterns, as you see, you can take ready-made or create yourself. Consider briefly the sequence of creating the product itself. So, the work goes as follows:
- Paper parts templates.
- Lay out the elements on the fabric optimally sparingly.
- Pin with pins.
- Circle the workpieces along the contour and draw seam allowances.
- Cut out all elements of the product.
- Stitch each part on the left side, while leaving a hole for turning out and stuffing.
- Turn out the stitched element, fill it with a synthetic winterizer or other filler, sew a hole.
- When all the elements of the doll are prepared, combine them into a single whole.
- Embroider or paint with pre-coated acrylics with PVA glue as a primer on your face.
- For human dolls, make a hairstyle, for example, from yarn of a suitable color.
- Sew separately removable clothing or sew non-removable items directly onto the body blank.
- If necessary, decorate with additional decor (tie ribbons, glue bows, beads, give a flower, a basket, etc. to the pens or paws).
The doll is ready to decorate the interior of your home or go to visit your relatives and friends.
As you can see, making patterns of pumpkin heads on their own is not at all difficult. So if you decide to sew an exclusive thing, you can not use a ready-made template, but develop it for yourself.
