Bruno spiral and its purpose

As you know, war is a harsh, cruel time when the end justifies any means. For the sake of saving their own lives and the lives of relatives left at home, the soldiers are ready for anything. The enemy cannot be pitied - is he capable of pity?

Particularly desperate, the defenders always fought to defend the besieged city or village, which is not surprising, because behind them were defenseless women, children and the elderly. In order to save them, ditches were dug up, ramparts from the earth and stones were poured, barriers were strengthened - but everything was in vain.

Bruno spiral
During the First World War, everything changed, since the Frenchman Giordano Bruno - either a philosopher or a warrior - managed to invent a new means of defense against the enemy.

This tool was a spiral in the shape of a cylinder, the diameter of which could reach a meter, and a length of twenty-five meters. She was a retinue of barbed wire - from several of her threads - and the support-extensions were provided by stretching supports. In honor of its "parent", this invention is called the "Bruno Spiral".

The role of this innovation in the war could not be overestimated. It proved to be an extremely effective defense against enemy infantry, and the movement of the cavalry was much more difficult. Since the basis of the spiral was barbed wire, and not ordinary, it was impossible to climb over it, and the large diameter of the structure greatly complicated its damage. Therefore, the enemy could not get close.

Barbed wire
The Bruno spiral helped its installers destroy the enemy - since in order to overcome it, the infantryman needed to make several cuts - and he could only do this while standing up - it was not difficult for the defenders to "remove" him with a bullet mark.

This invention was most effective when using machine guns - while the enemy was trying to overcome the obstacle, he was shot on the spot. Another tactic proved to be slightly worse: passages were left in the fence, which were guarded by soldiers, killing everyone who tried to get through.

During the war, the Bruno spiral had two uses - detention, followed by the destruction of the enemy in battle and the protection of peaceful settlements. In both cases, its huge advantage was not only the efficiency and complexity of overcoming, but also the speed of installation. This spiral was always ready, stored and transported in folded (folded) form, and, if necessary, was stretched using wire and stakes. In addition, its manufacture was possible in the field - for this, only barbed wire and stick patterns were needed.

Barbed wire
Shortly after the war, other countries adopted the manufacturing technology of this invention, and now the Bruno spiral can be found in many places - including in Russia. It is used to block objects that require special protection. Most often you can see this kind of barbed wire around prisons, secret and military facilities.

In addition, anyone can buy the Bruno spiral and to enclose their own site or garage from potential gates. Its cost is not too high, and the installation is simple and affordable for everyone.
