A gazebo on the site today is not a luxury, but an urgent need. In this small room they spend holidays with their families, receive guests, arrange holidays, etc. It is completely uncomplicated to build such an object in the garden or in the yard. Especially if for its construction a technological timber that is easy to process will be used.
Types of wooden arbors
From the timber, you can collect only two types of structures. Frameworks are very beautiful. In addition, these are the cheapest buildings - panel gazebos from timber. With their own hands, they are going to be very simple. Therefore, this option is by far the most popular among summer residents. You can also build a more thorough arbor, the parapet of which will be entirely assembled from the timber. Sometimes in this way closed gazebos are also built in the suburban areas, which can be used all year round. Very often braziers are also installed inside these structures. It is possible to make such useful stove equipment both from brick, and from stone or metal.
We make a project
Of course, the construction of such structures as gazebos from timber, do-it-yourself should begin with the preparation of drawings. It is best to draw two diagrams of the structure - the front and the profile. It is also worth making a plan from above with the placement of all the necessary garden furniture and the necessary equipment.
The arbors can be rectangular or multifaceted in shape. The first option in the construction is very simple. A somewhat more sophisticated technology is being used to build a multifaceted arbor made of timber. Do-it-yourself drawings in this case are made with an indication of the method of mounting the nodes and the calculation of the position of the corner posts. Only in this case can a neat construction be erected.
Of course, in the preparation of the project, it is necessary to perform various kinds of calculations regarding the amount of material needed and its final cost.
How to choose a bar
Gazebos made of timber, built with their own hands in the garden or in the yard, are reliable, beautiful and durable only if high-quality material was originally selected for them. For the construction of these structures, coniferous wood is usually taken. This can be, for example, fir, pine, cedar or spruce. The second option is most preferred. Pine tolerates very well the effects of various kinds of adverse environmental factors. In addition, this tree is characterized by smoothness, durability and an attractive shade.
You can build a beautiful gazebo from both profiled and glued beams. Most owners of suburban areas choose the first option, as cheaper.
Foundation construction
Since the arbors from the beam, with your own hands (a photo of these structures can be seen on the page), usually light and small are erected, it is not necessary to fill in a too powerful base under them. An inexpensive columnar foundation will be sufficient . It can be built both from ceramic brick, and from wood or concrete. The latter option is considered the cheapest and most popular among owners of suburban areas. Such a foundation is poured as follows:
- Mark up using an inelastic sturdy cord and long wooden pegs.
- Pits are drilled under pillars with a diameter of about 30 cm and a depth of about 50. The distance between them should be no more than 1.5 m.
- Pour some rubble at the bottom of the pits and ram it.
- The formwork is installed from a roofing material rolled into a pipe and four reinforcing rods connected by a clamp.
- Fill the pillars. In the upper part of the extreme piles, rods are inserted under the arbor racks. Above the surface they should protrude 20 cm.
After waiting a couple of weeks, the foundation is waterproofed from above with two layers of roofing material and begin to erect the walls.
Frame and parapet assembly
When arranging such structures as panel gazebos from timber, with their own hands, they first make the lower harness. In the corners, the material is mounted on rods and fastened in a half-wood way. In the middle of the gazebo lay one lag. Next, corner racks are installed strictly vertically. They are mounted on rods poured into the foundation and additionally on galvanized corners. Next, install the upper harness and nail the handrail of the railing, leaving a place for entry.
This is the way the frame of such a structure is assembled, like a simple arbor from a beam with your own hands. If the building is not shield, but ordinary, the following are placed on the lower crown, also connecting them using the “half-tree” or “paw” method to the height of the parapet. Next, only corners are laid out in the same way or racks are installed on them. If the gazebo is closed, the beam is laid to the very top.
Roof assembly
The question of how to make a gazebo from a beam with your own hands, beautiful and neat, comes down to the correct assembly of the roof. Roofs on these structures are usually made multifaceted. For a rectangular arbor, a four-slope is arranged. It is going like this:
- Two beams are installed on the upper harness at the corners diagonally. An octagonal column is heightened from a bar with a thickness of about 40-50 mm along the height of the roof and fastened at its intersection.
- The first set corner corners. Landing nests can be cut both in themselves and in racks.
- Mount four intermediate (auxiliary) rafters. To the stand in the middle, all legs are fastened with long nails.
- Across the rafters, the crate is fixed from a narrow board.
- Mount sheets of metal or any other roofing material.
Sheathing of a parapet of a shield arbor
You can finish the railing of the frame structure with an ordinary board or lining. The latter is best mounted on hidden kleimers in a vertical position. In this case, no water will accumulate in the grooves between the lamellas during the rain. Sometimes the parapet of the gazebo is also sheathed with metal profiles or plywood. You can simply install balusters. In this case, the railing is attached last. The balusters themselves are fixed to the strapping beam through the floors on metal studs with a length of about 8 cm. The handrail on them can be bolted.
Decoration of slats
The gazebos trimmed with thin slats look very impressive. With your own hands (a photo of such a building can be seen below), this spectacular decor is easy to make. Decorative rack frames are being assembled on the ground. Then they are installed above the parapet. For their installation, you need to cook a fairly thick beam. From it they knock down a rectangle in size of the opening of the gazebo and attach it to the resulting frame of the rail at an angle of 45 or 90 g. Next, make another such rectangle of timber and also embed it. Then both frames are connected to each other so that the rails are inside the resulting structure and are located crosswise. Then the finished decorative elements are inserted into the openings.
The final stage
After the construction of the gazebo from the beam with your own hands will be completed, proceed to sheathing the floor. In an open structure, it is better to place the boards not close, but at a small distance from each other (about 3-4 mm). Water will drain into the resulting slots during rain. The ceiling in the gazebo is usually not sheathed. But you can also trim it with a edged board.
At the final stage, the structure will need to be painted or varnished, intended for use on the street. This will significantly extend the life of the gazebo. You can also use special oil to process wooden elements. It does not crack like paint, and does not go away with rags, like varnish.
Barbecue in the gazebo
When assembling a barbecue from a brick, the foundation for it is poured simultaneously with the foundation device of the arbor itself. It is advisable in the first place to build the brazier itself, and erect the walls after it is ready. Gather a brick barbecue, using the rules.
How to arrange and equip a gazebo
Of course, the erected building must be decorated. Typically, creeper plants are planted around the arbor. It can be ivy, wild grapes or hops. Unpretentious marigolds, petunia, decorative cabbage, etc. can also be planted on the flower beds. A table (usually in the middle) and benches are set in the arbor itself. You can also hang drawers inside to store garden tools, barbecue utensils, etc.
As you can see, building a gazebo from a beam with your own hands is not at all difficult. Even an inexperienced young owner of a suburban area can cope with this task. It usually takes a little effort and money to build a gazebo, and the benefits from it are simply enormous.
