The decision to raise the retirement age for women so significantly was announced at a meeting of the Parliament by the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Kelimbetov. He motivated his decision by the fact that women often give birth, earn little and live long. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in order to maintain today's level over the next decades, it is necessary to carry out reforms, no matter how "painful" they are.
