Hyacinths are perennial bulbous flowers belonging to the lily family. In total, there are about 30 species of these plants, which can have a wide variety of shades. Due to its exquisite beauty, hyacinths are very popular all over the world, you can grow them both on the garden plot and at home.
Hyacinth, planting and care in the garden
The soil with good water permeability, the abundance of the sun and the lack of groundwater - these are the conditions that hyacinth prefers. Planting and caring for these flowers does not require too much effort, however, in order for the plants to take root successfully, certain measures must be taken. The plot of the flower garden reserved for their cultivation must be prepared at least ten days before planting to ensure timely subsidence of the soil. The bottom of the pits intended for bulbs is covered with river sand with a layer of up to 3 cm. At the same time, organic fertilizers are added to the soil: a three-year humus and a complex mineral composition. Planting depth depends on the size of the bulbs, the layer of earth above them should be three times as long as their length. If the soil on the site is light, the depth should be increased by 2 cm, if heavy, reduce by the same distance.
Planting hyacinths is preceded by inspection of the bulbs, their sorting and treatment with funadosol. They can also be kept in a solution of potassium permanganate for about half an hour. After completion of planting, the soil is covered with peat or humus, as well as dry leaves, straw or spruce paws, which will protect the plants from frost and death. It is best to plant hyacinths the day before in the first frosts. In the spring, the flower garden is freed from insulation even before the end of the cold weather. During the growth period, hyacinths need abundant lighting, and during the dormant period, they need to provide shade and limit soil moisture. The rest of the time, watering is done regularly. Blooming hyacinths can be fed with mineral fertilizers, after flowering is completed, potassium and phosphorus additives are used. It is worth noting that these plants do not like spraying.
Hyacinths look great in convex flower beds, and wild varieties look most elegant in rockeries. The time for digging bulbs is determined by the state of the leaves, which begin to turn yellow at the end of June. This point is important not to miss, because hyacinth can deeply grow into the soil and it will be impossible to find. If the plants are left in the ground without transplanting, they will cease to bloom. After digging the bulbs, it is necessary to dry and place in the sand for storage.
Hyacinth, planting and home care
Hyacinth at home, care for which largely repeats gardening activities, is grown in well-drained pots about 10 cm high. Bulbs are planted in early October. Loamy sandy loamy soil should hide them by two-thirds, while the tops are at the same level with the edges of the pots. After planting, the pots are covered with a heater - peat crumbs, sawdust, dry leaves or paper bags and kept at a temperature of 6-10 degrees, pouring hyacinths with cold water as the soil dries. In mid-December, the sprouts reach a height of about 10 cm and flowers can be set in the room on the windowsill. Hyacinths need abundant watering. The optimum room temperature is about 23 degrees. Flowering begins in about a month, it can be significantly enhanced with mineral fertilizing.
Also, these flowers can be grown without soil by placing bulbs in flowerpots with water, in which mineral fertilizers are added , so that the hyacinth barely touches the water surface. The care algorithm is similar to the traditional one; water in flowerpots must be changed every two weeks. By performing these simple steps, you can grow beautiful hyacinth, planting and care for which does not imply much trouble, and the owners will delight the flower for 3-4 weeks.
