Yucca, leaves turn yellow: "who is to blame" and what to do?

Yucca is an ornamental evergreen tree plant from the Agave family. The genus Yucca has 40 species, many of which grow in the open air on the Black Sea coast (in the Caucasus, Sochi, Crimea and southern Ukraine). In indoor floriculture, a yucca aloe-elite, resembling a palm tree, is usually used. This tree grows to a height of 4 meters, so it requires a lot of space.

But the microclimate of our apartments and offices does not always suit her, often the plant begins to hurt and turn yellow. Let's try to find the reasons for this and eliminate them so that your house is again decorated with a green and healthy yucca. Yucca leaves turn yellow, most likely due to waterlogging. Urgent need to take action. To do this, remove the plant from the pot and carefully inspect the roots. Cut out everything rotten to a healthy place and treat the slices with any fungicide or pink (but rather bright) potassium permanganate solution, sprinkle with wood ash. The plant is transplanted into new soil (a mixture for palm trees is suitable) with good drainage, it is advisable to add coarse sand to the soil. Immediately you can water the plant with root, and then water it another 3-4 times.

In the case when the roots have already decayed, it remains only to try to use the top of the plant as a stalk (also treated with root). If the plant is flooded, but quickly noticed, it is not necessary to transplant it immediately. Need a thin, sharp stick (or knitting needle) to pierce the soil to the bottom in several places.

Due to waterlogging and air stagnation, a Yucca can be affected by a dangerous fungal disease - stem rot. As a result, part of the crown or stem (or one of several stems) decays. It is possible to identify the diseased parts of the plant by touch, they become soft (if air is probed in the stem, but on the whole it is solid, the plant does not get sick). If you do not immediately remove the damaged parts (to a healthy place, with fungicide treatment), then the whole Yucca will die. This pruning, unfortunately, only helps if not all of the plant is affected.

For the same reason (overmoistening), a yucca can get leaf spot. This disease is of fungal or bacterial origin, it is expressed in the appearance of grayish-brown spots on the leaves (β€œmosaic” yucca). Caring for a diseased specimen consists in removing dappled leaves, treating with fungicide and reducing watering. Note that it is undesirable to spray a yucca to avoid disease.

There is another reason why yucca can be sick. The leaves turn yellow, possibly due to too high a temperature in the winter. The temperature for wintering yucca should be around +8 ... + 10 degrees. If the yucca is in a room that is too warm in winter, it begins to shed its leaves. In this case, only the transfer of the plant to a place with a suitable temperature will help.

If yucca foxes are twisted and soft, brown at the edges, then the room temperature is too low or the plant froze by a cold window. The dried brown ends of the leaves or the drying of their edges is caused, as a rule, by excessive dryness of the air. By the way, if you have an aquarium, then the yucca around it will feel great.

Lack of light can also affect the plant negatively. Because of this, the yucca is often sick, the leaves turn yellow. This problem can be solved by organizing the plant with additional illumination (best with a special lamp for plants) or rearranging it in a brighter place, for example, to the south or east window.

But if dry, pale spots formed on the leaves, then this happens, on the contrary, from an excess of the sun. Yucca is also sensitive to direct sunlight. The leaves turn yellow and simply from old age, because even in nature they gradually die, exposing the trunk. After transplanting or changing places and conditions, a yucca can also lose leaves. Often this happens after the purchase of the plant, since the "relocation" for him is a lot of stress.
