Sometimes the sky is lit up by a gleam of lights burning on the earth (fire, illumination). It happens that the sunset light colors the atmosphere in a variety of colors. This phenomenon is called the glow.
With its beauty, it invariably inspires creative natures, and mystics seek secret signs in this. The word for many has a romantic connotation.
What the Dahl dictionary knows about the glow
The explanatory dictionary of the living Great Russian language by Vladimir Dahl not only explains what the glow is, but also gives a lot of interesting information about the life of this word and its derivatives in folk speech.
Here is some of them:
- In hoary antiquity, the month of August (aka sickle) was also called the "glow". It is unknown, however, because of celestial phenomena or because of the beginning of the roar of deer during the mating season.
- Glowing (illuminated by the glow) sunset clouds portend a windy day.
- Zarevnik - this is the name of the year marked by a large number of fires.
- Zarevnitsa (or Zarevnitsa) was celebrated on September 24 on the day of St. Thekla.
- Appearing and standing glow is indicated by the verb Glow.
- The adjective vowel was used in the sense of ardent, passionate, fire (like a glow). Zarny was called not only fervent, passionate, indefatigable and wanting something, but also envious, greedy.
Glow and UFO
Ufologists often deal with a mysterious glow in different parts of the world. According to some of them, the pink glow hanging above the water surface is the light of pure energy that cosmic aliens direct into the body of water in order to maintain life in it.
These researchers of the beyond believe that such a glow in the sky appears at a time when the inhabitants of the Earth's planets in the solar system take away the negative accumulated in the water.
But often it turns out that the mysterious glow has no mystical or alien reasons. For example, in the fall of 2010, residents of Izhevsk were convinced that they were at the epicenter of the UFO invasion.
This was due to the strange glow blazing over the city, it was visible from a distance of 50 km.
It turned out that the heavens owed an unusual illumination to local greenhouses, in which vegetables were grown using new technologies, irradiating them with special lamps for days.
Other glows in heaven and on earth
And a few more examples of using the word โglowโ as proper names:
- Russian combat helicopters use a thermal imaging system for viewing and aiming under the name "Glow".
- It is easy to guess what color the fruits of the West Siberian apple trees of the โglowโ variety have. At the end of August, these small, juicy, sweet and sour apples ripen. They are yellow in color with delicate red washed out over the entire surface.
- In Khislavichi district of Smolensk region there is a settlement with that name. There is also a nature monument of regional significance "Zarevo Village Park". Its arboreal diversity at the time of golden autumn also creates such a glow on earth that is able to compete with the atmospheric.
These are all possible meanings of the word that are known today.
