History

This town was not remarkable in the first half of the 19th century. Moreover, he was not a city at all, but a small inconspicuous village. In 1851, a railway station was opened here. The village began to turn into a large transport hub. During the Great Patriotic War, the city was heavily inherited from the German invaders. Bologoe was bombed at least five hundred times. Despite everything, the station did not stop working. In memory of the feat of the railway workers, a monument was erected at the station.

In February 2011, a tragic event took place in the city. A fire broke out in the cinema, which killed 60 people. About 100 residents of Bologoy suffered. In commemoration of the dead, a memorial chapel was erected here, which still stands today.

Another tragic event occurred in the late summer of 1988. The condition of the railway section near the city in the eighties was poor. On August 16, a train wrecked. A monument was erected at the crash site.

After the locals picked it up, which they managed with great difficulty, she was transferred to the temple. A chapel was built on the site of an amazing find.

Nevertheless, the main attraction of the city is the local history museum, which is located in a former merchant's house. The exhibition opened more than 100 years ago. The initiator of the museum was a modest school teacher. Here are exhibits that are somehow related to the history of the city. Among them is one of the bombs dropped on the city during the war.

Several ancient estates have been preserved in Bolog. The remains of one of them can be seen on the shores of a picturesque lake. On Lenin Square stands the house of the merchant Ryabinin, built in the 19th century. On Cathedral is the house of Artemyev.

Monument to Vysotsky

Local attractions include the building of the city station, built in the middle of the XIX century. A monument to Vladimir Vysotsky was erected next to this architectural monument, miraculously survived for so much time. The actor and poet often visited Bolog.

The most picturesque place in the city is by the lake. A little far from Bologoy there are several camp sites.

From Tver to Bologoye you can reach by car in two hours. As already mentioned, trains passing from Moscow to St. Petersburg go past this city. So, it is easy to get from Bologoy to Tver by rail.
