Glass insulation, the installation of which is carried out by special methods, is, in fact, the material that replaced the roofing material. It is a bitumen strip with a base of fiberglass or a special frame fiberglass, rolled into a roll. The second option is considered to be better and easier to install.
Such rolls do not bend, do not jam, do not deform, and do not stick together. In addition, in the manufacture of fiberglass, a special paraffin emulsion is used, which significantly reduces the adhesive properties of the material.
At the moment, only two varieties of glass is made - protected on both sides by a film and made with special topping. The length of the web in a roll is usually 7-10 meters. Glass insulation, the installation of which involves the use of special tools, is a flexible material, but at temperatures not lower than -10 ° C. Installing it on the roof or overlapping in colder weather is unacceptable, since cracking is possible. Laying technology requires dexterity and accuracy. This material is mounted in a slightly more complicated way than a roofing material.
Preparatory work
Before laying, you will need to prepare a special roofing (propane) burner. You can also use diesel fuel. Glass insulation, the laying of which is carried out by the method of deposition, at subzero temperatures must first be kept in a warm room for at least a day. This will make installation easier and better. Of course, the surface must first be prepared. It must be leveled and cleaned of dirt, dust and grease stains. Next, the screed is treated with a special tool - a primer solution that reliably binds all the remaining dust. It is necessary to carry out processing in two approaches. After that, the surface will be considered prepared.
Stacking glass
Next, you need to try on. The roll is expanded and a strip of the required length is cut. You can use a roofing knife. The remainder of the material is again rolled up. Warming up the lower adhesive surface with a burner, the strip is rolled over the surface and pressed as densely as possible to it. Glass insulation, the installation of which should be done as carefully as possible, in this case will adhere tightly to the base. The next strip is mounted with an overlap (8–10 cm). The manufacturer already at the manufacturing stage leaves specially for this an edge strip without sprinkling. From the ends it will have to be removed manually. The material is simply heated with a burner and cleaned off with a strip of 10-15 cm. This is the width of the overlap, which must be sustained from the ends.
Some nuances
Do-it-yourself glass-laying is a doable business. However, all the necessary technologies must be followed. The burner is equipped with nozzles of different diameters. This will allow you to choose the most suitable temperature for heating the material, which depends on its thickness. After the main installation, it is imperative to go through all the seams with the burner again for reliability. You need to iron them using a trowel.
As you may have noticed, the technology for laying glass isol is a process that is somewhat complicated for a person who does not have experience. However, if you have hands and a desire, you can learn everything, including the installation of this reliable roofing and waterproofing material.
