Beautiful callas. Cultivation and care

Calla conquered the whole world with its beauty and originality. These flowers came to us from Africa, where in the wild they can be found only in swamps or along the banks of deep rivers. That is why they are very moisture- and heat-loving.

Callas bloom in winter, and then they can please with their color until late spring. Quite unpretentious callas. Growing them will not require much effort from the gardener. The main thing is to do it with love. The calla flower produces a very delicate vanilla aroma. If suddenly fruits begin to form on the plant, then they should be carefully removed. Otherwise, they will lead to depletion and further death of the plant.

Calla is not an evergreen. She drops foliage as soon as the cold comes.

Today you can find not only white, but also yellow, even pink callas. Growing and caring for new varieties does not differ from the usual care of plants with a white color of the flower. Many believe that this plant has a very picky character. As a rule, those who do not follow the rules of agricultural technology think so. Meanwhile, callas feel great at home, and in the summer - in the garden, endowing their owners with abundant flowering.

How to plant calla?

Around February or March, planting calla tubers should be started. The cultivation of this culture suggests the presence of soil intended for bulbous plants. True, in the absence of such an option, you can get by with ordinary garden soil mixed with sand and peat in a ratio of 2: 1: 0.5.

When planting the flower tubers, it is best to deepen about 10 cm. Until the first shoots appear, you need to water the plant slightly, passing only along the edge of the pot. And when the first leaves appear, watering needs to be increased. After all, calla is a very moisture-loving flower.

When the summer season begins, callas can be planted in the garden, in the open ground. However, it is worthwhile for her to choose a good place where there will be very light and very fertile land. Be sure to make a drainage at the bottom of the fossa, in which calla lilies are planted. Only in this case, the plant will delight its owners with a large number of flowers.

Watering calla lilies

Humidity for this culture plays an important role. Therefore, from about February, it is better to put the pot with calla lilies in a wide basin with water for about 20 minutes. Excess liquid should be allowed to drain. Of course, this water should be settled and have room temperature. When watering, use it as well.

Every day, the leaves of the flower should be sprayed, and in the summer, this should be done 2 times a day. If the plant has just been bought in a store and it is not yet adapted to the new environment, then it is sprayed as much as 4 times a day for a week. And then the plant gets used to the air of the room in which it is located.

Where to put calla lilies?

Direct sunlight is not very fond of calla lilies. Growing a plant will be successful if you keep it in a shaded place at a temperature of at least 24 degrees. It is advisable to put a flower on a window where there is a shadow. And when planting calla lilies in open ground, one should also choose a more shady area.

Fertilizer

Calla is very fond of being fertilized. You can use specialized flower mixtures once a month, which are added to water when watering. And you can also apply mineral fertilizers directly to the soil no more than once every 4 months.

Calla propagation

Most often, the reproduction of this plant occurs with the help of the lateral processes that appear around the adult specimen. They are separated, planted in specially prepared soil and regularly but carefully moistened. They will give flowers to their owners only in 2-3 years (with good care, of course).

In fact, callas are not very difficult to care for. Therefore, to grow them is a pleasure.
