Gusmania is a very beautiful flower, which can be seen more often in our apartments. Meanwhile, many are still afraid to grow it, believing that it is quite moody in terms of care. In fact, everything is far from the case. Now you will know what gusmania is. Caring for this plant is not very difficult, but still requires some knowledge.
Guzmania: origin
The birthplace of this flower is South and Central America. There it calmly grows in nature, being at the same time an epiphyte, i.e. a plant that chooses another plant or tree for its habitat. Guzmania, or guzmania (this is the same flower), got its name in honor of Anastasio Guzman - a Spaniard who was deeply involved in the study of tropical flora. Currently, the genus Guzmania has about 120 species of this unusually beautiful flower. But if we talk about its cultivation at home, the most common type of gusmania is Minor Rondo. Actually, scientists devoted a lot of their time to studying this flower, did a lot so that gardeners still have the opportunity to grow a gusmania plant at home. Care for it starts from the time of purchase, and ends immediately after flowering.
If you decide to acquire gusmania, then be sure to study the information below to avoid a lot of mistakes in the future.
Gusmania: home care
The first thing you should do after buying a plant is to transplant it. Choose a small pot for these purposes, since the root system of gusmania is very poorly developed (due to the fact that in natural conditions it lives on other plants). Be careful when choosing a land. Not every soil can please a plant. An ideal option would be a mixture of sand, peat, turf land and sphagnum, taken in equal quantities. Be sure to do the drainage, for which expanded clay or pieces of broken glass (utensils) is suitable.
The transplanted flower will feel most comfortable at a temperature of 18-25C. In principle, creating such a temperature in our apartments is practically not difficult. Gusmania loves to take care of herself constantly, so do not leave the plant for long. Please note that direct sunlight should not fall on the flower, which will burn the leaves.
I would also like to talk about watering. Gusmania is poured into a leaf outlet, only occasionally can this be done in the soil. Watering is moderate, exclusively if necessary. Make sure that the plant is not waterlogged, otherwise it may begin to rot. Gusmania also loves moist air, so it should be sprayed quite often. The higher the air temperature, the more plentiful its humidification should be.
Guzmania: breeding
Gusmania blooms very beautifully, and this beauty does not come only from the flowers, but from the bract, the color of which can be yellow, purple, saturated red. The flowers bloom fast enough, but the bract can please its beauty for several weeks. As soon as the flowering period ends, the plant gradually begins to wither and die. At this time, new sprouts appear at its base - the so-called "babies", which are the continuers of the flower genus. As soon as the root system appears, they can be transplanted into pots, so that after some time to wait for a new flowering.
Here is such an unusual guzmania flower. Caring for it is quite simple, even a beginner grower can afford it. If possible, be sure to settle this plant at home. Its flowering will delight you for a long time, uplifting and decorating the interior.
