The deepest metro station. Where is she

The deepest metro station ... Have you ever been to it?

Every modern person, and even more so the one who was lucky to live in a big city, probably enjoys using such convenient transport as the subway. If we study this topic in more detail, it becomes immediately literally clear that the stations are very different, just like the wagons.

Sometimes they, for example, in Moscow, St. Petersburg or Kiev, resemble a real work of art, and sometimes, like, say, in Berlin, they are convenient and comfortable trains that move lightning along boring and ordinary corridors with lightning speed.

Section 1. The first deepest metro station . Where and how did she appear

The deepest metro station

Initially, the very first and deepest metro station was conceived and designed in the UK.

It was 1863 in the courtyard, and the renowned engineer of the time, C. Pearson, meticulously worked on drawings for a new vehicle, such a necessity in an ever-growing city. Few believed in success, and it took more than 20 years to convince the municipality and officially open the first station. At that time, work was mainly carried out only in open trenches, and only a little later the architects decided to build underground stations, although it should be noted that their depth was very insignificant by today's standards.

The local population was somewhat apprehensive about what was happening. Trains ran along the rails until 1906, they created a lot of noise and smoke, so the housing near the stations sold poorly and was almost equal to barracks.

It was urgent to rectify the situation, the city hall made the only right decision, and over the course of six years, the entire transport structure was gradually updated, and it was completely composed of electric trains.

By the way, I note that after London in the 19th century, the metro did not appear at all in megacities, as it might seem at first glance, but in the provincial towns of that time: Budapest, Glasgow and Athens.

Section 2. The deepest metro station . Who is on the list of modern champions

The deepest metro station in the world

I would immediately like to warn that this is a complex issue, and it is most likely not possible to determine the absolute record holder.

Why? The thing is that at first glance the honorary title β€œThe Deepest Metro Station in the World” can be given to Arsenalnaya, which is located in Kiev. Its depth is impressive and is approximately 105 meters. However, everyone knows that this is a city built on the hills. How then to measure its depth of the station? Regarding sea level? Or still taking into account the surface of the earth?

Disputes continue to this day.

In addition to Arsenalnaya, I would include in the list of leaders:

  • Admiralteyskaya in the Northern capital, the construction of which is still ongoing, but the planned depth has already been announced - 102 meters.
  • Washington Park (Portland, USA). The object is also built in an area with a rather uneven height landscape.
  • "Commandant Avenue", again St. Petersburg. 78 m.
  • Chernishevsky (Peter) - 74 m.
  • The 90-meter Victory Park in Moscow, although it, like Kiev's Arsenalnaya, was built under a hill.
  • Puhung in Pyongyang (North Korea). This place also serves as a shelter that can be used by residents in the event of a nuclear attack.

Section 3. The deepest Moscow metro station

The deepest Moscow metro

Initially, the opening of the Victory Park station was planned in 2000, but due to lack of funding, it solemnly received its first visitors only in 2005.

The hall is decorated in two styles dedicated to two significant events at once: the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Second World War.

At the western end, the hall is decorated with a huge and magnificent panel, but the eastern one, which tells about the events of 1941-1945, is represented by black and gray marble.

Numerous lamps illuminating the room are hidden by a cornice and this even more creates a feeling of chamberness and solemnity.

By decision of the Moscow Government, in 2013, the construction of the second exit will begin in the western part of the hall.
