In order to understand how to work with the finishing diagonal ribbon, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with it better, namely, to understand what a slanting inlay is and where it is used.
Oblique trim processing is a very simple and relatively easy way to finish straight sections, as well as the neck and armhole of a product. In appearance, it is a ribbon of fabric cut along an oblique and ironed with sections inward. Such belts can be purchased at fabric and accessories stores or cut independently from a suitable fabric, moreover, the fabric can be taken both dress and knitted. Have you ever paid attention to T-shirts and how their neck and armhole are treated ? This is a great example of applying oblique bejka. However, it is used not only in underwear. Widespread use of oblique inlay and in the processing of curtains. Quite often, such a treatment can be found on thin blouses and tunics with a round neck, where the oblique ribbon is cut out of the same fabric as the thing itself, and is carefully sewn around the neckline. And these are not all the options where you can use this type of finish. So, we got acquainted with the scope and appearance of this tape, let's now take a closer look at how to sew a bias tape to the product.
There are two options for processing sections of products with an oblique tape: the first with the application of one seam, the second - stepwise. The first option is suitable for processing straight sections, such as curtains or napkins, but if the sections are curly, it is better to use stepwise sewing.
How to sew a slanting inlay with the application of one seam on a straight cut of fabric? It is quite simple: we put the slice in the tape folded in half and carefully lay the line, making sure that the needle grabs the two edges of the inlay (from the face and from the inside).
The second option is more time-consuming, but, in my opinion, it is more reliable, since you will have to sew an oblique hem with two stitches, which means it will hold the edge tighter.
To begin with, we unfold the ironed tape, apply it face to the cut of the fabric and sew along the fold.
After that, we wrap the tape on the other side and lay the second line a few millimeters from the edge.
If you donβt know how to sew a knitted oblique trim, then the second method is exactly what you need, it is ideal for highly stretching fabric. And so that the second line comes out as neat as possible, it is recommended that the wrapped trim be fixed with tailor pins. As an option for a knit inlay, you can use the overlock. In this case, the tape folded in half is sewn to the cut, while the tape is pulled a little. After the seam is steamed, wrapping it on the main fabric, and a line is sewn along this seam from the front side of the product. In this way, you can process slices on a T-shirt or top.
If this is a blouse or top made of dress fabric, then you can take a finished satin trim or cut a diagonal ribbon from the same material as the thing. Now let's look at how to sew an oblique neckline as a neckline:
- We measure the cutout and according to this size we take the oblique tape, unfold and grind the edges to close the tape in a circle.
- From the front side of the fabric, to the neckline cut, we apply the unfolded inlay face down and lay a stitch along the fold.
- In several places of the rounding of the cut, we make notches to the very seam and turn the tape on the wrong side, smooth and pin with pins.
- Adjust the trim at the same distance from the edge of the neck.
Using these simple methods of processing slices, you can cope not only with the edging of tacks and rugs, but also with more complex things.
