Hammer enamel is a quick-drying coating specifically designed for a variety of aluminum and steel products. She got this name thanks to a peculiar texture, which resembles the impact surface of an old instrument.
Hammer enamel is made from special resins, aluminum paste and auxiliary additives, providing a unique hammer effect. The finished coating is characterized by resistance to elevated temperatures (up to +130 degrees Celsius) and various mechanical damage, as well as high impact resistance and excellent anti-corrosion properties.
Modern paints of this type usually have an alkyd-styrene base, which allows them to completely dry in just a few hours. In addition, hammer enamel can also include a rust converter - an epoxy component, which can significantly simplify the process of preparing a particular surface before applying the color directly. An unusual surface texture is created by adding a special chemical reagent to the paint composition.
The scope of such a coating today is very extensive. Alkyd enamel is used both for coloring industrial equipment and household appliances, as well as for decorating office and home interiors in the hi-tech style. An excellent effect is obtained by painting with this composition of steel doors, a variety of forged products, fences, gates, heavy metal furniture. Moreover, the composition can be used both outdoors and indoors.
Hammer enamel is usually applied with a pneumatic sprayer to a previously prepared surface, completely cleaned of dirt and dust, degreased and coated with a primer. Staining is performed in either one or two layers. Xylene is used as a solvent for paints of this type. On average, enamel consumption in a single-layer coating is about 90–120 g / m².
The undoubted advantages of alkyd paint include good adhesion to bases of various types, high elasticity combined with hardness, and abrasion resistance. In addition, hammer enamel is resistant to water, a variety of weathering, solvents, acids and gasoline. However, at the same time, paints of this type are fire and explosion hazard, require storage in heated storage rooms and are characterized by toxic effects on humans.
Hammer enamel can be purchased today either in specialized online stores, or in ordinary construction stores and shopping centers offering various products for repairs. Manufacturing companies offer alkyd paints in a wide variety of colors at prices ranging from two hundred to a thousand rubles per kilogram, depending on the brand and the amount purchased. The buyer will only need to look into the catalog and choose the most suitable color option.
