The Republic of Lithuania has been a member of the European Union since 2003, and since 2008 the Schengen Agreement has been extended to the state. Since that time, residents of non-EU countries need to acquire Schengen, that is, Russians need a visa to visit Lithuania.

What category of visa is required?
For visa categories, the State of Lithuania does not make any recommendations. The category is determined only for the reasons of the trip. There are several types of documents for entering Lithuania:
- Transit visa . It is necessary for those for whom the Republic of Lithuania is not the last state of visit, but only a transit point. Such a document allows you to be only in special areas of Lithuanian international airports, which are strictly forbidden to leave.
- Short-term visa . Tourist trips to Europe to visit museums, cultural and religious centers, cities, shopping require a short-term visa. The document can be valid for a period of several days to five years.
- National visa . Citizens of the Russian Federation who want to stay in the republic for a long time for temporary residence, training, doing business or working, need to apply for a national visa. The duration of such a document usually does not exceed a year. A citizen who has received a document at the embassy has the right to visit other European states without additional permits. The usual period for such visits is less than 2 months.

Where can I apply for a visa to the Republic of Lithuania?
Citizens of the Russian Federation can draw up a document at the embassy in Moscow, branches in Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg, or at visa centers working in eighteen megalopolises of the country. A citizen who wants to apply for a visa to Lithuania is required to submit papers to the embassy.

The algorithm for applying for a visa to enter Lithuania at the visa center is as follows:
- First you need to fill out a questionnaire. The form can be downloaded on the official website of the embassy or taken at the visa center. A manual questionnaire is filled out only in block letters.

- Make a fee for the center service fee and consular fee.
- Personally submit the appropriate application form and package of documents to the visa center. Another person can submit documents by proxy.

Features of applying for a visa to Lithuania at the embassy
The submission of a package of papers to the embassy differs only in that you must make an appointment in advance. This can be done by phone or via the website. The questionnaire must be filled out through the official website of the embassy. Filling out a document is no different than if a citizen filled out a printed application form manually. What documents do I need to provide for a short-term visa?
What documents are needed for a visa to Lithuania? In order to obtain a visa to the Republic of Lithuania, a Russian must provide the following documents:
- Statement. All data in the application must correspond to the data in the documents, errors or typos must not be allowed, there must be no strikethroughs. The questionnaire is filled out only in block letters.
- State duty payment receipt. For citizens of the Russian Federation, the consular fee is 40 euros for an ordinary visa and 75 euros for an urgent visa. Children under twelve years of age, persons with disabilities, persons of Lithuanian descent, citizens who are sent to Lithuania to study or to participate in sports and contests are completely exempt from paying the fee. A detailed list of persons who have a benefit is presented on the website of the embassy. Citizens who apply for documents at the visa center need to pay an additional service fee of 20 euros. Disabled persons and children under six are exempted from it.
- International passport. It must be valid for at least a few more months from the end of the trip. The passport must have two blank sheets, which are necessary for affixing a visa and entry / exit marks.
- Photo (size 40 x 55 mm). The photo should be high-quality, clear and contrast. In the visa center or embassy you can get a full list of conditions for the photo. It’s best to take a photo a few days before submitting papers.
- Medical insurance with a minimum coverage of thirty thousand euros. Many Schengen states, such as the Baltic countries, do not accept hand-filled policies. All documentation must be provided exclusively in print.
- Copies of the internal passport: pages with biometric data, information about registration, marital status, previously issued international passports. The copy can be black and white, but always of high quality, all data must be completely readable.
- Documents determining the reason for visiting Lithuania. Such proof can be a hotel reservation, where a citizen plans to stay, round-trip plane tickets. If the trip is organized by a travel agency, you need to attach a contract with this company to the package of documents.
- Documents by which you can establish financial viability. The embassy may claim from citizens of the Russian Federation who enter the Republic of Lithuania to verify the fact of solvency. As a rule, for this you will need to attach a certificate received from the place of work, a statement of the status of the personal account or travel checks. A minimum of 40 euros is required for every day of your stay in Lithuania. If a citizen is not able to testify to his solvency, he can provide the embassy with a sponsorship message, a copy of the sponsor’s passport and a certificate of his income. A letter from the sponsor is in free form.

Preparation of a visa to Lithuania for minors
Lithuanian law prohibits minors under 14 from staying in the Republic of Lithuania without adults. The representative of the child must provide a general package of documents and a questionnaire for the child, regardless of age. What documents for a visa to Lithuania need to be provided? - Copy of birth certificate. A copy is necessary if the child has not yet become the holder of a Russian citizen passport.
- Consent to the departure of a minor, notarized. Paper is necessary if the child is with a guide or with only one parent. An exception is made only if the second parent is deprived of parental rights.
- A copy of the visa of the parent or the one who will accompany the minor. A document must be provided if visas have to be obtained separately.
Documents for a visa to Lithuania for Russians and Belarusians who are sent to study
University students and students of various courses provide the representative office with a regular package of papers and a certificate from the institution where they will study. In addition, they present documents confirming the availability of sufficient financial resources or sponsorship.
Visa to Lithuania by invitation
You can visit the Republic of Lithuania at the invitation of relatives or other persons residing in a European state. In this case, the inviting party must provide the alien with a place of residence and pay for his return to the Russian Federation, if necessary. To obtain a visa by invitation, you must present, in fact, the invitation itself and confirmation of relationship with the inviting person (if possible).
Business visa to Lithuania
For Russians who are often in the Republic of Lithuania for work, for example, for negotiating with partners, participating in conferences or exhibitions, it is better to use a multiple business visa. To obtain such permission, you need to attach documents confirming the fact of departure on commercial and business issues. This may be a business trip program, exhibition tickets, an invitation letter from business partners from Lithuania.
But such a visa does not provide an opportunity to get a job in Lithuania or the European Union. To work, you need to draw up a separate "working" visa.
Who may be refused a document?
Representation may not authorize the entry into the state of certain categories of people:
- persons who submitted fake documents or knowingly false information;
- citizens who have already been noticed in violation of the visa regime;
- persons who are unable to confirm the purpose of the visit;
- foreigners who do not have sufficient financial resources to visit a European state.
As evidenced by the practice of obtaining visas, in the risk zone there are also citizens who are not married, do not have their own children and go abroad for the first time. In order to get a tourist visa or a visa by invitation, you must assure the embassy employee that the citizen:
- has sufficient cash security;
- has a place of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania;
- has medical insurance;
- proved the true purpose of travel - tourism, but not employment or study;
- did not violate the laws of their own state and other countries.
In the event that a visa has been refused, a citizen may appeal to the Lithuanian Embassy for reconsideration.
