Almost every mommy tries to have her baby dressed not only well, but also beautifully. And hedgehog mittens belong to those accessories that will perform not only their direct function - to warm the baby’s hands, but will also become a little fluffy friend on cold winter days. Learn how to tie them so that they turn out to be warm and pretty, we learn from this article.
Which is better: simplicity or fiction?
Often, adults are convinced that if minimalism is present in their clothes, then their children should dress in exactly the same way. And why spend money and materials on something like that if the child grows out of it anyway quickly? It’s better to do everything very simply, according to the most usual scheme for knitting, because it will turn out much faster and still warm.
And yet, many mothers are sure that even for the smallest things should not only be practical, but also interesting. After all, the kid is much more interesting if an elephant calf lives on his blouse, a little squirrel lurks on his trousers, and hedgehogs flock on mittens. All adults know that usually babies do not like mittens. And if this accessory - hedgehog mittens - will be smart, with a cheerful animal, then the little ones will not resist, perceiving them as a new toy.
What will we need?
For starters, of course, it should be noted yarn. It is best that it is not habitually woolen (it might seem that this is the warmest), but with the addition of acrylic fibers. By the way, it is absolutely not necessary to take brown, black or gray as the main color. After all, this is all fit for kids. Therefore, the threads should be bright, and the quality should also be excellent. If you choose some dull, dull shades, then the associated accessory will not please not only babies, but also their mothers, who tried for them.
To get the real ones mittens, hedgehogs with knitting needles, we must not forget about thorns. Yarn grass is perfect. In principle, you can take any color, but, as a rule, they pick one so that it matches the main threads.
Also, 5 stocking needles or circular on a fishing line are useful for work. You may need a crochet hook.
First option
Knit hedgehog mittens (a master class for beginners will be presented now) are knitted in several ways: you can choose yarn-weed or knit long loops. The easiest way is to make mittens on five knitting needles, using the mentioned “grass”.
To get hedgehog mittens for a child aged five to six years, the craftswoman will need 50 g of ordinary wool yarn and about 30 g of “grass”.
On the needles you need to dial 32 loops (their number will depend on how thick the thread is and how much is the child’s wrist). Knit six centimeters of elastic with a wool yarn, and then go to the front surface. Half the loops (in this case there are 16), knit with a woolen thread, and then you need to attach the “grass” and finish the remaining 16. So continue: the lower part of the mittens will be of smooth yarn, and the “grass” is added to the upper.
So you need to knit about five centimeters in a circle and then begin to form a hole for the thumb. For the right mitten, you need to knit the first four loops with a contrasting thread from the right knitting needle of the lower side. Make one row, and then continue with the main color. After six centimeters, begin to lower the loops, trying to form a corner. Now the “weed” is no longer needed, further knitting can continue without it.
Corner, finger and face
That's how hedgehog mittens knit. The master class shows what to do next. The corner can be done as follows: knit the remaining two loops of the upper side to one. On the right knitting needle of the lower side, knit the first two loops together. On the opposite side they descend in the same way. When only one loop remains on each of the knitting needles, you must break the thread, stretch them through it and tie it.
And now you can return to work on the place for the thumb. To get started, remove the contrasting thread. Loops that open, put on knitting needles and knit about five centimeters. Now the work is ready to be closed with a corner - just like on a mittens.
When everything is ready, it remains to make a muzzle: from small beads - eyes and a nose, and ears can be tied and sewn. They are crocheted: two or three air loops are gathered, fixed in a ring and knitted about twelve to fifteen double crochets. Sew these little ears on the border of the face of the hedgehog and its cute spines.
So the mittens fit a hedgehog. The master class presented above clearly showed that the work is simple.
Another option
He is perhaps one of the simplest and most harmonious. Here, the abdomen will be almost the same as that of a real hedgehog, and the thorns do not need to be sewn. And to do everything is not so difficult.
At the very beginning of the main knitting, it is necessary to introduce a thread from the yarn of grass. It turns out that the back side is knitted in two threads, and the abdomen-palm - in one. The density will hardly vary, because the grass is quite thin.
At first, the thorns may not seem very pretty. This is due to the fact that with such knitting they will become tangled in loops. But everything is easy to fix - at the end of the work, everything gets better with the usual comb. Hedgehog mittens are ready!
