Clematis are perennial tree-like creepers. There are varieties that decorate with their flowering garden plots, located not only in areas with a warm climate. For example, clematis for the Urals are recommended in the following varieties:
- Jacqueman's group includes
climbing plants from 1 to 5 m high with large-sized flowers (violet, blue, lilac). Trim the shoots completely or leave 20-30 cm after the first freezing;
- group Integrifolia. They grow shrubs up to 2 m tall. They have flowers that look like bells of white, purple or blue color. Because the buds appear on the shoots of the current year, pruning is performed low after the onset of cold weather;
- Winzell's group, clematis for the Urals up to 3 m high belong to it. There are pink and lilac-red. Abundant flowering on the shoots of the current year allows you to crop them completely.
Being perennial vines, clematis for the Urals have been growing in one place for a long time. Planting plants in fertile soil fertilized with humus, in a sunny place you can achieve long and plentiful flowering. Species clematis prefer an alkaline environment, but neutral is suitable for most varieties.
You can learn
how to plant clematis in the Urals from the seller of seedlings, but it is better to use the generally accepted and proven method. Deeply dig the soil to a depth equal to two bayonet shovels; make a pit 60 cm deep, on the bottom of which drainage is made of broken bricks or gravel; filled with a loose mixture consisting of garden soil mixed with sand and humus. Instead of the latter, you can use compost. Be sure to add fertilizer and a small amount of ash and pour two buckets of water.
Before planting, you need to inspect the roots of seedlings for pests and diseases. Dry or rotten ones are removed, the remaining ones are treated with a drug that promotes their rapid regrowth
(growth stimulator). The plant is set on a formed mound, slightly deepening and spreading the lower part. Pour the remaining mixture of earth, tamp and once again well watered.
Being winding vines, clematis for the Urals require reliable support, which is better to install in advance so as not to damage the root system of the seedling. Some designers use clematis as
ground cover plants or plant them on
retaining walls, from which they hang beautifully. Throughout the growing season, the flower must be fed with mineral fertilizer.
Clematis is propagated using green cuttings. In June, the shoot of the current year is cut from the bush, cut into pieces so that each contains two internodes. The lower end is lowered into a growth stimulator and clematis cuttings are planted in planting pots with loose earth, watered and covered with a jar. After a year they are placed in a permanent place.
At the end of autumn, creepers are removed from the supports, trimmed, laid on the ground and covered with several layers of covering material. So that the plant does not get wet in the winter, they cover it with a film on top, under which mouse poison should be put.
