Parquet varnish: types and features

To date, to protect the parquet floor from external influences, as well as to give it shine and beauty, parquet varnish is used. Thanks to the coating of the surface with a special composition, its service life is significantly increased, and operational characteristics are also improved.

The technology of applying the varnish coating is not too complicated, and anyone can master it.

Parquet lacquer
To cover the parquet with varnish, it is necessary to perform a series of sequential actions, since only in this case the result will be reliable and high-quality.

So, first of all, it is necessary to polish the parquet with a special disk machine so that it becomes perfectly smooth. After this, you should putty all the seams and clean the surface of all kinds of debris. Before applying parquet lacquer, it is necessary to treat the entire surface of the floor with a primer lacquer, so that the adhesion of the main material to the surface will significantly improve. After the primer varnish has dried, it is possible to apply varnish for the parquet board.

Today, in almost any hardware store you can easily purchase a parquet lacquer product, but before you make a choice, you need to consider a sufficient number of factors. For example, the type of wood used, the strength of mechanical stresses on the parquet, the desired color and, of course, the cost of the lacquer material itself and its consumption.

Given the above, it should be noted that parquet varnishes can be of four types: water-based (water), polyurethane, varnish material with artificial oil resin or with a special acid hardener. Consider each of the types of this material in more detail.

Parquet water-based varnish does not have a pungent odor, is characterized by high fire resistance and environmental friendliness. In addition, it dries very quickly.

Due to its properties, it is used for flooring in residential premises. However, there are also disadvantages: varnish is unstable to chemicals and may not be suitable for some types of wood.

Parquet varnish with artificial oil resins is used mainly for the restoration of old coatings, as due to the formation of a dense oily film, it improves the appearance of a worn floor. It has a very strong smell, therefore it is mainly used in public places.

Polyurethane varnish is the most widely used and effective. It has high wear resistance and resistance to mechanical and chemical influences. Varnish allows the surface not to lose its natural shade and give it the desired shade. This material dries within six hours. And since it has a rather pungent odor, protective equipment should be worn when working with it.

Parquet acid varnish. This is a mixture of varnish and hardener - unpretentious material in work with an acid hardener. It does not need a preliminary primer, has high resistance and is completely insensitive to humidity and temperature extremes.
