It is amazing how quickly newly-formed words occupy a place in our language. Even not fully understanding their true meaning, people “grab” for an interesting “term”, inserting it wherever they fall. Here Americans are called "Pindos." Where did such a dubious nickname come from? Where are its roots? Yes, and what does it mean? Let's figure it out.
Multiple Versions
When people want to deal with the name "Pindos" (where it came from, how it was born), they come across an abundance of fairly reliable information. It is recommended to consider all versions. The fact is that the nickname is offensive - you yourself understand. A good person is unlikely to be called that. Sounds very unpresentable. Yes, and use it for the most part on the network. However, the authors of publications and comments are not particularly interested in why Americans are called Pindos. They are quite understandable. The military, denoted by this word, did a lot of evil. People are more and more interested in why Pindos behave as if the planet belongs to them. So scolding them with the "international" word. Almost all nations understand it without translation.
Serbian version
The boots of those called Pindos trampled a lot of land. Where did this nickname come from , the Serbs know well. They are sure that they are its "founders." The fact is that the American army has strict rules. Only unlike other military structures, much is tied to money here. The soldier will not receive insurance when he is injured (if killed, then his relatives will be refused) if he does not have all the ammunition required. And this set is huge! Its weight is forty kilograms. There are ammunition from a variety of items, batteries and weapons with spare sets, all kinds of dry solders and flashlights, water and special devices. You will not list everything! It became interesting to Serbs why Pindos drag all this on themselves? On a bright sunny day - and with a flashlight. It's ridiculous! Only then they figured out that they felt sorry for the money. They injure, for example, a soldier, and with him there will be no knee pads or a night vision device - and that’s all, he does not see insurance. Presses, in a word. And from such a severity, the American guys hobble along the “democratically captured” lands that penguins are in the ice. Very gait they become ugly ...
Pindos - Penguins
This was noticed by the Serbs, who have a considerable sense of humor. The fact is that in their language the word "pindos" just means "penguin". This is not to say that the name is affectionate. Rather offensive to horror. After all, the “fur seals” that trampled across Serbian land considered themselves heroes, fighters against terrorists. And then there is such a name, showing them awkward, stupid birds.
That is why Americans are called Pindos. Strongly they touched the people - even small, but proud. Maybe they could not give a worthy rebuff to the brave US soldiers there, but they have glorified the whole world with such an unpresentable nickname.
Latin American version
There is another theory about the origin of the nickname "Pindos." Where did this word come from, the inhabitants of Latin America decided to explain. They are in solidarity with the whole world in a common dislike for the forged boots of the self-proclaimed "peacekeepers." They do not favor American bases either in Europe, or in Asia, or on other continents. These are the realities of life. According to the Latin American version, this offensive name comes from pendejos. For our ear, the word sounds like “pendejos”. Translated into Russian - an idiot. Also, nothing joyful for the "fur seals" and other American soldiers. But here it’s not up to pity for them. They greatly annoyed the world, so much that people are fighting for the right to give them the most offensive nickname.
How the “term” reached Russia
And the story happened during the incident in Kosovo in 1999. Then the Russian paratroopers entered the Slatina airport, near Pristina. It turned out so unexpectedly for the NATO members that it caused a shock. The first to arrive at the airport were the British. Seeing the Russians, they quickly retreated away from sin. Then the Americans organized a camp opposite the airport. So for some time the units stood against each other. The local population supported the Russians. It also explained to the paratroopers why the Americans are Pindos. But the funniest thing happened next. After all, the word of two hundred paratroopers would hardly have been introduced into the Russian language so quickly. He was literally “advertised” on TV.
How the term gets unexpected popularity
A scandal then in intergovernmental circles flared up serious. Political degrees went wild. It was necessary to get out of the situation before nuclear weapons went into action. To smooth the impression, it was necessary to reassure the public of the countries. Reports from Kosovo regularly appeared on blue screens. In one of them, a Russian guy who turned out to be in the center of events told his fellow citizens about the local name of the so-called peacekeepers. This, of course, the Americans did not like. Therefore, General Yevtukhovich, the commander of the Russian peacekeepers at that time, appealed to the officers and soldiers, which sounded the following phrase: "Do not call Pindos Pindos." It is clear that by doing so he literally tightly soldered an insulting nickname to the American military. Now it has stuck to all the inhabitants of the country.
Are all Americans called Pindos?
In fairness, it should be noted that not every resident of the United States deserves an offensive nickname. After all, what is its meaning? They were awarded "peacekeepers" for arrogance, slowness, and lack of respect for the local population. Is this the difference between all the inhabitants of America? Of course not. They are so spoken of only when they want to emphasize the imperial views of this superpower. In discussions of a political orientation, discussions of economic problems taking place on the network, this is accepted. You could say it has become a tradition. In such a simple way, a person emphasizes his views and point of view at the moment. This is not an assessment of the entire people, but only a clear demonstration of the critical attitude to the political methods of the US elite. A person will write in the comments “Pindos” - and everyone understands exactly how he relates to the problem.

If at the very beginning Pindos called only the military, who rudely broke into foreign countries, trampled on the traditions and views of the local population, now this behavior is seen in other areas of the American state. To the original meaning of the word - greedy, clumsy, stupid, unable to respect another opinion - the following was added: aggressive, arrogant, cruel, cunning and so on. Almost throughout the world, the nickname "Pindos" is perceived as a synonym for the words tyrant, invader, bully, ruthless aggressor. Although not all Americans are. For the most part, they live by their worries and joys, sincerely perplexed, for which they are not loved.
