Mounting guns turned out to be an excellent alternative to manual labor in difficult conditions when you need to work with a solid base. This tool has several advantages. Clogging the dowel nails, using construction mounting cartridges, occurs without preliminary drilling the base, and this not only greatly facilitates the work, but also saves time for one operation. Such pistols work without a power supply, which allows them to be used in the field.
Varieties of pistols
Although there are several types of such tools (gas, pneumatic and powder), the mounting cartridge is used only in the latter. Structurally, it is close to firearms and works on a similar principle, therefore, it is mainly produced at weapons factories. Accordingly, the quality is confirmed by world famous brands - TOZ, Walter, Spit, Remington, Hilti and others.
Also, pistols are divided according to the type of supply of cartridges: single-shot (manual feed), semi-automatic (cassette-disk) and automatic (cassette). The latter have the highest performance, which can make about 700 connections in an hour.
To carry out specific tasks, for example, for roofing on metal structures, installing corrugated sheets or waterproofing tunnels, working with concrete, low-carbon steel, fastening metal grilles, special designs of guns are produced.
The mounting cartridge used in such pistols is single. However, safety precautions when working with this tool should always be followed. The device itself is disassembled, inspected, cleaned and lubricated after about every five thousand shots.
Mounting cartridge: principle of operation
The principle of operation of all mounting pistols is the same, only in the powder dowel is clogged with a piston, which actuates the force of the explosion of the cartridge. The force of impact on the dowel is selected in accordance with the density of the base into which it is driven. It can be adjusted either by selecting the power of the cartridge, or mechanically, if provided for by the design of the gun.
The bulletless (blank) mounting cartridge has the form of a sleeve, the open end of which is rolled and colored marking is applied to it, corresponding to power. It is charged, as a rule, with smokeless powder. Ignition and explosion occur after striking the striker on the igniter capsule.
In some cases, there are also mounting cartridge designs equipped with a capsule such as Berdan and Boxer (used in combat shells).
Gunpowder guns cannot be used during installation works involving materials such as glass, ceramics, cast iron, curbs and granite.
Caliber and Power Ammo
Different brands of powder mounting guns are charged with their types of construction cartridges, which differ in caliber and power.
The most common calibers for semi-automatic and automatic pistols are 6.8 x 11 and 6.8 x 18. And in single-shot pistols of the type Hilti DX E72 or GFT307, a mounting cartridge of 56 x 16 is used. All of them are divided depending on the discharge power, which is indicated when using special color marking (yellow, red, blue, gray, black or green). Color identification is repeated on the carton.
A particularly important point is the correct choice of power, since the reliability of the connection will depend on this. So, for example, for driving a dowel-nail into a brickwork or a plastered wall , a power of up to 500 J is suitable, but you can cope with a steel or concrete base with an impact force of more than 500 J.
