What is ORP in chemistry in general? Redox potential. The second name is redox potential.
This is a measure of the ability of a chemical to recover. That is, attach electrons to yourself. The ORP of the solution is measured here in microvolts. One of the illustrative examples of the redox potential: Pt / Fe 3+ , Fe 2+ .
ORP is also defined here as the electric potential, which is established when platinum or gold (that is, an inert electrode) is immersed in any redox medium. This is a solution that contains both oxidized and reducing compounds.
The ORP will be determined by electrochemical methods using a glass electrode with a redox function. As we have already said, the indicator is measured in mV (microvolts) relative to the hydrogen standard electrode under the same standard conditions.
What is the ORP of water?
We are talking about redox reactions - reactions of addition or transfer of electrons. They are the source of energy for all living organisms, homeostasis, the intensity and speed of restoration of damaged cells depends on them.
What is AFP? This, respectively, is the redox potential. This is the name of the activity of electrons involved in redox reactions that occur in a liquid medium.
The redox potential of water and humans
Scientists at the platinum electrode measured the ORP of a person. Here, an indicator of the restored state of the liquid medium was the numbers from -100 to -200 microvolts. But the ORP of water that people use for drinking and cooking is completely different: from +200 to +300 (and sometimes up to +550) microvolts.
What does this difference indicate? The electrons of the human body are more active than the electrons of the water that it consumes. A person spends a fraction of his life energy in order to "adjust" the ORP indicators of the water he drinks.
Therefore, scientists thought about how to change the ORP of a liquid so that it is absorbed faster by the body, and it does not waste energy on adjusting it according to its needs. And for this you need to use water, the ORP of which is close to the ORP of the liquid media of the human body.

Why are oxidation-reduction reactions so important for our body? The fact is that a lot depends on the activity of electrons:

For its assimilation and use, the body does not waste its high-energy electric potential of cell membranes.
Studies have also shown that water is beneficial for the human body, not only with a potential similar to our potential, but also with negative AFP. Here, the potential difference will become a kind of reserve for nourishing the body with energy, its protection from adverse environmental factors.

Dead water
So called analyte, acidic liquid. Water whose ORP is high (up to +1200 mV), and the pH ranges from 2.5 to 6.5. But many water suppliers use a sly advertising move, calling the “dead” tap. And its ORP, on average, is +200 mV.
When stored in a closed container, dead water stores its properties for 1-2 weeks. Despite its name, it is useful in many cases:
- Rinse the mouth and throat with flu, SARS, fungal diseases.
- Washing with the prevention of rashes, acne.
- Disinfection of medical tools, dishes, linen, rooms.
- Lowering blood pressure, relieving joint pain.
- Normalization of the nervous system, the return of restful sleep.
Foam ORP
You can meet such a name. What is air-foam ORP? They have nothing to do with redox reactions. The abbreviation here stands for "air-foamy fire extinguisher."
Such a device is designed to extinguish fires of Class A products (smoldering, solid substances of organic origin - coal, paper, wood and others) and Class B products (liquids, as well as solids that turn into liquids - oil products, paints, oils, and others).
At the same time, the ORP is not intended for extinguishing materials from alkaline earth or alkali metals (magnesium, aluminum and their alloys, as well as potassium, sodium) and other substances, products whose combustion is possible without air. Such a fire extinguisher is also useless for extinguishing electrical installations that are energized.
Fire Extinguisher Features
ORP allows you to create a foam cover that reduces the access of oxygen to the fire, which helps to quickly localize the fire and deal with it. The effectiveness of the ORP is significantly increased when using film-forming fluorinated blowing agents as a charge to it.
The main advantage of air-foam fire extinguishers is their long working time. According to this indicator, they "bypass" all other similar devices. But at the same time, standard AFPs are also distinguished by the following disadvantages:
- The need for periodic (at least once a year) recharge.
- High rates of corrosion activity of fire extinguishers.
- The possibility of freezing the working solution at subzero temperatures.
- The impossibility of extinguishing molten materials, highly heated objects, as well as substances that give a violent reaction to contact with water.
