String Beans: Growing and Care

String beans - a welcome guest on our table. Love her not only for excellent taste, but also for usefulness. Beans of this species contain a large amount of vitamins C, B1, B2, provitamin A, as well as salts of calcium, iron and phosphorus. It is worth noting the fact that green beans contain vegetable protein that is easily digestible by the human body and is similar in composition to meat protein.

How to Grow String Beans

This vegetable came to us from Central and South America. While the Americans in full use of green beans, the Russians only found out about it at the end of the 16th century, but also fell in love very quickly. Experienced gardeners are sure to know how to grow beans at home, but beginners have some doubts about whether they will be able to harvest a good crop. I can’t vouch for the amount of the crop, since a lot will depend not only on you, but also on weather conditions, since green beans require a sufficient amount of light and heat.

String beans growing loves caring, though not as capricious as many other vegetables.

First of all, you need to prepare the ground. During its digging, a gram of fifty ammonium nitrate should be added, the same amount of superphosphate and potassium salt (the amount is indicated per 1 sq.m.). Ideally, it is good to plant asparagus beans in the place where potatoes or root crops grew before it. The neighborhood of peas, onions and garlic is undesirable.

Decide on the choice of variety. Personally, I want to advise the Sachs variety, as it ripens quickly enough, and is also resistant to a large number of diseases. You can turn your attention to the Triumph sugar variety. He enjoys special popularity in the European part of Russia.

Soak the seeds before planting, and then sow 12 cm between the plants and 25 cm between the rows. It is best to put two grains in each hole, and after sprouting leave the strongest. The first shoots will appear somewhere in a week. Please note that green beans, which are usually grown in the second half of May - the end of September, love warmth, so planting should only be done if even the slightest frosts do not declare their existence. The optimum temperature for the germination of such a vegetable is 20-23C. But if the weather in your region is rather capricious, then you can plant the asparagus beans under the film first, as you do with cucumbers.

String Beans - Growing and Care

So, the beans are planted, the first seedlings appeared, which quickly begin to grow. Make sure that the grass is not crushed by the vegetables, i.e. weeding must be carried out in a timely manner. If you choose a climbing grade, you will have to build special structures for which it will cling and reach for the sun. Make sure that the asparagus beans do not dry out. Especially beans need watering in a dry summer. The lack of moisture has an extremely negative effect on the amount of yield that can subsequently be harvested.

Please note that green beans, the cultivation of which you are already familiar with, are eaten only after heat treatment. In its fresh form, it contains toxic substances that are completely destroyed only after exposure to high temperature. Typically, beans are first boiled, and only then they make a wide variety of dishes from it. The easiest way to cook it deliciously is to simply fry it in a pan with onions, adding salt, seasonings and sour cream to your taste. Delicious salads are also made from green beans and baked in the oven. In general, if you decide to grow this vegetable, you will not regret it at all, since you will always find use for green beans.
