In connection with the rich chemical composition described above, these fruits are good for making various jams, for preserving and making compotes.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of this fruit include high winter hardiness, comprehensive resistance to various diseases, good yield, early maturity and attractive consumer qualities of the fruit.
The disadvantages include the periodicity of fruiting, a great showability of ripening fruits and their rather weak surface color.
Cultivation area
Rogneda pear is cultivated in a wide variety of climatic zones, in connection with which it is classified into several types: late summer, early autumn and autumn.
She inherited good taste, unpretentious care and endurance from her “parents” (information about them a bit below). Therefore, any gardener can safely plant this fruit. In addition to the above mentioned remarkable properties, Rogneda is frost-resistant, which is why she is not afraid of Russian winters.
Harvesting and Storage
Featuring high fecundity, a pear from one tree can produce an excellent crop (approximately 50 kilograms). Harvested usually from mid-late August. It should be noted that the Rogned quick-growing pear, as a rule, is removed a little immature and ripens already outside the tree.
To prevent over-ripening and spoilage of fruits, they should be collected about 10 days before the start of consumer (technical) maturity - the end of August, or the first week of September. The harvest is stored in this way from two to three weeks, and even up to three months in the refrigerator.
Variety breeding history
The Rogneda pear variety was bred by a group of breeders at the aforementioned agricultural university named after K.A. Timiryazev. They tried to create a sort of fruit that would easily take root and bear fruit abundantly in cold Russian latitudes. The varieties Forest Beauty and Tema were taken as the basis.
The second is often used as an ancestor in the creation of new species with improved qualities. It is known for its unique properties.
In the process of creating a new variety, the following was taken into account: winter hardiness; resistance to lack of moisture and waterlogging of the soil; burn resistance; productivity; resistance to scab damage.
Another ancestress is the Forest Beauty. This is a Belgian variety, which is a dessert, with excellent taste of the fruit, ripening in early autumn. Like Theme, this species tolerates sharp changes in negative temperatures. It is unpretentious to growing conditions and pleases with a wonderful plentiful harvest.
On the basis of such magnificent two varieties, the Rogneda pear arose.
About the title
The female name of Rogned was carried by Princess Polotsk, who at one time was an outstanding and rather strong personality. Most likely, that is why this newly created, endowed with a mass of positive qualities and hardy variety got exactly this name.
This is one version of the origin of the name of the pear. Rogneda means "born to rule, pampered by power."
Perhaps the aim of the first idea of the group of breeders was the desire to create an almost perfect pear variety, since seven natural scientists worked on it. This proves that this variety had high hopes. It turned out, corresponding to its name, the magnificent Rogned pear.

According to many, in terms of taste, this pear has a southern juicy sweetness, an unusual taste with obvious notes of muscat. And according to the shelf life, this species is quite satisfied, and resistance to disease is excellent.
For gardeners growing Rogneda, its unpretentiousness is important both to care for it and in terms of soil composition. And breeders speak very positively of her. This is good material for creating beautiful, more advanced new varieties. Remarkably bear fruit and transportation.
In conclusion, a little about the conditions for growing in gardens
In order for the pear yield to be annual, it is necessary in June to remove the extra ovaries after shedding flowers and cut the tree. In general, this pear is partially self-pollinated, which depends on whether the stamens are capable of pollination. In this regard, to fully guarantee pollination, the following varieties of pears should be planted on the site with it : Vidnaya, Miladya, Pamyati Anzin and Chizhovskaya. Moreover, trees planted nearby should also be resistant to frost and have the same flowering time as Rogneda. On the general perimeter, at least 3 types of pears must be planted, which differ in maturity.
Everyone is good at Rogned’s pear. Thanks to the successful work of Russian breeders, it became possible in almost the vast majority of the country to grow this wonderful, tasty southern sunny fruit.
