Length of service is a variation of seniority. In particular, it represents a long period of time that has been worked out in a particular profession. In accordance with the current legislation, the length of service gives an undeniable right to benefits for continuing employment, to a supplement to the basic wage and accrual of pension for the length of service.
Sometimes you can hear another definition - a special work experience. However, this is not exactly the same thing. The length of service is a special subspecies of the special work experience, which has completely different rights and incentives.
The pension for the length of service is determined by the citizen only after the termination of work, for which this same pension was assigned to him. The exceptions are educators, health workers in rural areas, as well as people working in open pit mining and underground work. In this case, a preferential pension is paid to them, regardless of whether they still work by profession or not. It is appointed for life, and no one has the right to deprive a person of payments.
For each category of citizens who perform labor activities in professions defined by law, which give the right to receive a pension according to the length of service, a special period of time, or length of service, after which this payment takes effect, is set. For example, employees of flight test and flight personnel must work for at least 25 years (men) and 20 years (women) so that the length of service is counted as a preferential pension. For the teaching staff, the duration is longer: women need to work out 25 years, men - 30 years. Exactly the same restrictions apply to healthcare providers.

The length of service of military personnel is calculated a little differently and is determined not only by the Law of 12.02.1993 No. 4468-1, but also by the “Status of military personnel”. In particular, the total length of service in military service should be 20 years or more for people who have reached the "extreme" age. In the event of removal from military service until reaching the age limit (due to organizational and staffing events or due to health reasons), the experience in the armed forces of the Russian Federation should not be less than twelve and a half years. In this case, the length of service pension is also payable to a former soldier.
The same requirements as for military personnel are imposed on employees of the State Fire Service, serving in the police department or in the bodies of the penal system.
The length of service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs gives the employee the right to accrue a pension, to provide additional leave, a monthly salary bonus , a lump-sum allowance upon dismissal from the authorities, as well as a presentation for awards and other incentives. An important feature is that the length of service necessarily includes the period of study in professional educational institutions on a full-time basis, but no more than five years (as is the case with military personnel). Two months of training are equal to a month of service. Plus, the length of service includes a probationary period when entering the service.
