Cultivation and care

Nitrogen fertilizers are applied after planting in the soil, and phosphorus-potash fertilizers are applied after flowering. In dry periods, the plant needs to be watered, since with a lack of moisture, growth and flowering slows down. At the end of flowering, panicles are usually cut. This is necessary so that the leaves do not become small.

In the autumn, before the frosts, the bushes are cut off, leaving stumps a few centimeters, mulch the soil under them with sawdust or peat and cover the leaves with leaves.

Breeding

Volzhanka herbaceous plant for open ground is propagated by dividing the bush, grafting or sowing seeds.

The most time-consuming method is the reproduction of the plant represented by seeds. They have a pink-brown color, ripen on female plants. Such inflorescences need to be cut with a knife. Then they are placed in a sealed plastic bag. In October or even November (depending on weather conditions) they are sown in boxes or in open ground. It is necessary to maintain a distance between them of 13-16 cm. In the spring it will be possible to observe the emergence of seedlings. They will need to be transplanted into the soil at the end of the season in increments of 70-100 cm. Starting next spring, the bushes begin to grow, but they will bloom only after 3-4 years.

You can sow seeds in the spring, in March - in boxes, in the middle of spring directly into the soil. After germination, they are planted in open ground, cut a few centimeters above the ground for the winter, and transplanted again next spring.
