Volzhanka, also known as arunkus or meadowsweet, is a herbaceous perennial. It belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is found in nature in broad-leaved and mixed forests, where there is a lot of light (at the edges, in undergrowths).
Currently, the plant is widespread in the Caucasus, in the western regions of Russia. Also presented plant grows in the wild in Europe. The popularity of aruncus is due to its unpretentiousness, ease of care and excellent appearance.
Description of the plant Volzhanka should start with magnificent inflorescences in beauty. They look like fluffy panicles. The length of the inflorescences reaches up to 50 cm. They consist of small white and cream flowers that are tightly adjacent to each other. They are not only beautiful, but also have a pleasant, sophisticated aroma. It blooms from June to July, no more than 30 days. During this period, the plant is a unique decoration of the garden.
However, even in the absence of flowers, this species has excellent decorative properties. Spreading bushes with complex openwork leaves, which have a characteristic pattern, look good both standing alone and in the form of thickets.

The most common variety of this plant is the common aruncus. Its distinguishing feature is the rather large size of the bush. Such a variety as Kneffy on the site of a country cottage can grow to a height of 85 cm. A forest Volzhanka reaches a height of up to 2 m.

Cultivation and care
Growing a Volzhanka plant does not require much effort. The maximum growth of aruncus occurs from May to July. At this time, flowering reaches its greatest scale. Before the start of this process and during it, it is advisable to fertilize the soil every 15-20 days. It is necessary to alternate organic and mineral bait. Nitrogen fertilizers are applied after planting in the soil, and phosphorus-potash fertilizers are applied after flowering. At the same time, young plants that have been planted in holes with soil already enriched with humus do not need to carry out such procedures.
In dry periods, the plant needs to be watered, since with a lack of moisture, growth and flowering slows down. At the end of flowering, panicles are usually cut. This is necessary so that the leaves do not become small.
In the autumn, before the frosts, the bushes are cut off, leaving stumps a few centimeters, mulch the soil under them with sawdust or peat and cover the leaves with leaves.
Breeding
Volzhanka herbaceous plant for open ground is propagated by dividing the bush, grafting or sowing seeds.
The division of the bush is carried out either in early autumn, or in mid-spring after the snow melts. For division, an adult 4-5 year old plant is used. The most time-consuming method is the reproduction of the plant represented by seeds. They have a pink-brown color, ripen on female plants. Such inflorescences need to be cut with a knife. Then they are placed in a sealed plastic bag. In October or even November (depending on weather conditions) they are sown in boxes or in open ground. It is necessary to maintain a distance between them of 13-16 cm. In the spring it will be possible to observe the emergence of seedlings. They will need to be transplanted into the soil at the end of the season in increments of 70-100 cm. Starting next spring, the bushes begin to grow, but they will bloom only after 3-4 years.
You can sow seeds in the spring, in March - in boxes, in the middle of spring directly into the soil. After germination, they are planted in open ground, cut a few centimeters above the ground for the winter, and transplanted again next spring.
