Fatality in MK9: history and execution

Mortal Kombat is one of the most popular franchises in the world of video games. The entire series is made in the genre of fighting game - fights between characters using various types of strokes and techniques. But among all the variety of combinations in the game, fatalities stand apart - the final tricks used to colorfully finish the already defeated enemy. They are distinguished by extreme cruelty, sophistication and complexity of execution.

About the game

Mortal Kombat (from the English mortal combat - “mortal battle”, where the creators of the game intentionally replaced the letter “C” with “K” in the word combat) has been leading its history since 1992. The first game in the series - fighting game in two-dimensional space - was created by Midway Games for arcade machines and later transferred to home computers and popular game consoles, such as Sega Mega Drive, Super Nintendo, Game Boy and others.

Secret Boss MK1 - Reptile

The plot of the game, as well as later the whole series, takes place at the intergalactic tournament "Mortal Kombat", which was arranged by the evil sorcerer Shansung. Each character you can play for has its own special reasons why they participated in the tournament. In subsequent games, as well as comics, films and cartoons, franchises, the stories of the main characters are revealed in sufficient detail. The game contained various Easter eggs, including a secret opponent - Reptile.

The fight process was carried out by moving back and forth, jumping, squats, punches and kicks. Depending on the distance between the opponents and the character’s position, the blows could change. Also in the game there were a large number of combinations of punches.

With each subsequent game in the series, the gameplay became more diverse, the fights more colorful. New characters appeared, each with its own combat features. The quality of graphics, sound and animation was noticeably improved.

Main menu MK9

One of the most popular parts of the franchise was the ninth part of the game, which was simply called “Mortal Kombat”, although in common people it is also known as MK9. This game plot was a rethinking of the first three parts of the series and was a continuation of Mortal Kombat: Armagedon. MK9 was released on consoles in 2011 (PS 3 and 360), and in 2013 there was an improved version for PC called Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition.

Fatality History at Mortal Kombat

Fatality is a type of finishing off an adversary who appeared in the very first part of Mortal Kombat and became a franchise's key chip and visiting card throughout its history. Fatality is applied to a defeated adversary who is unconscious after losing in two rounds.

Fatality in MK 1

Each of the characters, as a rule, has two types of fatality. They are unique, each for its own fighter, and can be found in these fighters in other parts of the series, sometimes in a slightly modified form. For example, Sab-ziro has a very recognizable killing blow, repeated throughout the franchise: he grabs the opponent by the head and pulls it out of the body along with the spine.

The execution of fatality, as a rule, is not easy. To do this, you need to quickly press a combination of movements and strokes, never making a mistake. Often you also need to stand at a certain distance from the enemy. If you do not have time to hold the fatality for a certain time, then the enemy will simply fall.

Fatality in Mortal Kombat 9

Fatality, of course, is also present in MK9. Each of the characters has two of them (some still have special finishes). All of them are quite bloody and colorful, because of which the game according to various organizations has a rating of 18+, or Mature (17+, according to ESRB). The previous version of the game, by the way, had a rating of Teen (13+).

Finishing is very diverse. So, Milina bites her teeth with her teeth, Sub-ziro freezes or tears, Reptile overwhelms opponents with acid. In MK9, the fatality of Scorpio is chopping an opponent with a sword or burning with fire from a skull.

Fatality Sub-Zero in MK9

As you can see, the finishing blows at Mortal Kombat are very cruel, it is better for the faint of heart players not to execute them explicitly. But, in fact, it’s better for them then not to sit down at all for this game, since the blood there is gushing with liters.

Fatality Execution

In MK 9, fatalities are always done according to one principle: you need to stand at a certain distance from the opponent close, far or at an average distance, and press a key combination (usually a few movements), and at the end - a button of a certain blow. You can see which combination to do in the list of character tricks. To do this, during the battle you need to go to the menu and look in the appropriate section.

We show you how to do fatality in MK 9 on the Xbox 360 for Sub-Zero. To do this, click the buttons:

  • "To the left";
  • "To the right";
  • "way down";
  • "To the right";
  • and button B.

In MK9, fatality on a PC is done the same way, the difference is only in the hit button, if you use a different joystick or keyboard.

Brutality, babaliti and others

In different parts of the series there are several more types of finishing moves. For example, Stage Fatality (level fatality) depends on the arena in which the battle takes place, and is the same for all characters. In MK9, fatalities of this type look like throwing an enemy under a train or off a cliff.

Brutality was in the early parts of the franchise and was a long combo of eleven buttons. After the third part of MK they were removed and returned only in the last part - Mortal Kombat X. There they can be performed only under special conditions and during the battle. After brutality, the opponent dies without the possibility of finishing it.

Babalities were also not in all parts and were a transformation of the opponent into a baby. It looks rather comical and dilutes the cruel game with a joke.

Babaliti on Shao Kana in MK9

Animality - the transformation of the character into a wild beast that torments the enemy.

Friendship (from English “friendship”) - the character does not kill the enemy, but puts up with him or does something good (Sub-zero sculpts a snowman, for example).

Fergality was the most secret and rare super-finishing. It was possible to execute it only in the game "Mortal Kombat 2" on the "Sega Mega Drive", and only for Raiden and only in a certain arena.
