Embassy of Georgia in Russia. History of bilateral relations

Interstate Russian-Georgian relations span several centuries, and they have been repeatedly tested. There were periods of strong rapprochement, when Georgia voluntarily became part of the Russian Empire, and periods of radical estrangement, when the Georgian SSR withdrew from the USSR. Today there is another fairly long period of tensions between the countries.

Georgian Embassy in Russia

Georgia maintains diplomatic relations with most countries of the world, but Russia is not among these states. As a result of the armed conflict between South Ossetia and Georgia, in which Russia sided with the unrecognized republic, diplomatic relations were severed at the initiative of the Georgian side.

Of course, the two neighboring states cannot have no ties at all, and in the case of Russia and Georgia, these ties are long-standing and very strong. After the Georgian embassy in Russia ceased to exist, the Georgian Interests Section in Russia appeared at the Swiss embassy in Moscow.

Fragile two way communication

As a neutral country, Switzerland volunteered to perform intermediary functions. Despite the fact that Georgia unilaterally introduced a visa-free regime for Russians, citizens of the Caucasian republic require a visa to visit Russia.

In order to obtain this visa, Georgians need to contact the visa center at the Russian interests section of the Swiss Embassy in Georgia.

Address of the Georgian Embassy in Russia

Since 2008, Georgia has not had its own official representative office in Moscow, but Russians can turn to the Section at the Swiss Embassy on issues of interest to them.

The Georgian Interest Section is located on 6. Rzhevsky Lane, 6. Russians can go here for the consular services they need. It is worth noting that at the current address, which is now occupied by the Section of Interests of Georgia in Russia at the Embassy of Switzerland, the Georgian Embassy was previously located.

Since the Russians do not need a visa to Georgia, as a rule, the subjects of applications are issues of legalization of documents and migration.
