How to choose the right transformers for halogen lamps

Halogen Transformers
Human activity does not stand still, and only in the last century did world progress reach such heights as it had not reached in the entire history of the existence of people on Earth. The technical breakthrough in recent decades is especially noticeable, which is reflected in the constantly updated assortment of various equipment and devices. What can I say, when even the traditional β€œIlyich’s bulb” is actively replaced by lighting devices made using new technologies from the market. Among the new generation bulbs, halogen lamps, most often used in spotlights, have proven themselves well.

Halogen lighting

These units have found good use in everyday life, as the basis for decorative lighting of residential premises, providing good illumination and being at the same time part of the design. The soft light of halogen lamps gives the room a special style and comfort. There are two types of halogen lamps that differ in operating voltage - 220 and 12 V. The latter type is considered safe, since the voltage of 12 V does not pose a danger to humans, but for such lamps to work, special transformers for halogen lamps are needed.

What is a transformer for?

Electronic transformers for halogen lamps

If you look closely at the spotlights, you will notice that not all bulbs always glow the same, some glow brighter and others dim. This is the first sign that the lighting is powered by a voltage of 12 V, where the transformers are incorrectly selected for halogen lamps, divided into groups, or the technology for their installation is violated. The transformer provides the bulbs with the necessary voltage and power, if it fits their number. Therefore, in order to correctly choose ordinary transformers, and preferably electronic transformers for halogen lamps, it is necessary to find out their rated output power and divide it by the estimated number of bulbs. The power should not be less than the bulbs themselves will consume, otherwise this will not reveal all their possibilities, but the power reserve should not be with a significant excess.

The advantages of electronic transformers

Transformers for halogen lamps of the first generations are already obsolete and do not have such wide technical capabilities as electronic, which:

  • lightweight and compact;
  • have a low noise level;
  • well protected against short circuits;
  • stable when operating in idle mode;
  • have a smooth start level and protection against overheating and overload.

Electronic transformer for halogen lamps
Any electronic transformer for halogen lamps will have these characteristics, allowing them to be used for ceiling lighting and illumination of cabinet furniture. In addition, the electronic transformer, due to the smooth start, significantly extends the life of the bulb and saves money. For best efficiency, it is recommended to make a lighting system using several transformers. Transformers for halogen lamps in the amount of 3-4 pieces do their job better than one powerful device. In addition, if a single transformer fails, then there will be no lighting at all in the room, and if a transformer of one group of bulbs fails, the bulbs of other groups will continue to operate successfully.
