GTA: Vice City became the fourth video game of the franchise of the same name. The plot takes users to a fictional American city known as Vice City. To create it, the real city of Miami was used as a prototype, which was very well reflected in the general atmosphere and style.
Tommy Versetti, a mercenary and drug lord who was betrayed by his crime boss Sonny Foreley, acted as a protagonist.
At that time, Vice City managed to break many records, as well as earn love and recognition for the gaming audience. Naturally, the glory did not pass by our protagonist. Today's article will be dedicated to him, Tommy Versetti from GTA - a character whose name is known to any fan of the series.
Biography. The beginning of the story
It all starts with the fact that Tommy is in prison in the city of Liberty (another fictional place in the series). Players are told that in 1971 Versetti became a member of the shootout, in which several people died at his hands. What happened that year? The fact is that the Trout family, for which our hero worked, gave him the task to deal with a specific purpose. At one point, a perfectly thought-out plan went downhill and Tommy Versetti fell into an unexpected ambush. The result of a forced skirmish was eleven corpses, for which the hero was only waiting for the death penalty. Fortunately, the influence of the Trout family was able to save Tommy from certain death by changing the sentence to fifteen years in prison.
Arrival in Vice City
After that, we are carried forward fifteen years - a year when the hero leaves custody. It becomes clear to the Head of Trout that Tommy Versetti's tarnished reputation will affect his family image, so he decides to send him to another city. Our hero receives instructions on taking control of the process of an important drug transaction right in the Heart of Vice City. In addition, Sonny was always interested in securing the status of a family outside the city of Liberty.
So, the further history of Tommy Versetti connects him with Vice City. In company with two more guys from the Family, he arrives at a meeting with lawyer Ken Rosenberg, whose activities are regulated by Trout himself. With this transaction, they were supposed to strengthen their position in the new territory, however, plans again turn against the heroes. The exchange of goods suddenly stops when several people whose faces hide their masks open fire. The Trout people die on the spot - everyone except Tommy and Ken. They manage to jump into the car and hide from the attackers. Ken, in fear, decides to take cover in his own office, and Versetti returns to his hotel room, from where Sonny makes a call and tells him what happened. Such news, of course, does not please the head of the Trout family, and he begins to demand that the hero lose money and goods.

Tommy Versetti sets off in search of the man who tore off their deal. A little later, he meets Lance Vance, whose brother was also killed in the same shootout. Together they go to a local influential drug lord named Ricardo Diaz, who is the culprit of everything that happened. From this moment, the “partners” decide to act in two different ways. Tommy is trying to get closer to Ricardo, performing several tasks for him, while Lance is leaning towards the option of an independent assassination attempt.
Vance’s attempt fails, they catch him and try to interrogate him. Tommy comes to the rescue, who decides to cross out all his efforts and save a friend, as a result of which he loses Ricardo’s confidence. After that, the heroes decide to develop a plan to destroy Ricardo and successfully bring it into action. So Tommy Versetti deals with a man who almost ruined his life.
End of the way
After the murder of Ricardo, Tommy not only gains ownership of the mansion, but also earns a reputation as a local criminal authority. In parallel with his growing power, a suspicion of self-bias begins to creep into Lance Vance's head. He loses his former grip and fills even the simplest errands.
The Trout family is also not all calm: Sonny is infuriated by the mere thought of Tommy’s success, so he constantly pestering him with his calls, demanding money and a share of power over the city. To his great displeasure, Versetti refuses to share, and even kills all the collectors sent to him.
Then Sonny decides to come in person, having prepared a trap in advance. Tommy is also ready to meet his former boss with a surprise, but in the end he is betrayed by Lance Vance. During the confrontation, another secret is revealed: it was Sonny's hands who organized the shootout that happened fifteen years ago.
The bloody massacre begins. Tommy manages to kill all the bandits from the Trout family and deal with the traitor Lance. At the end of the shootout, he fires a bullet at Sonny.
In the epilogue
Sonny's death causes Versetti to get out of the control of the Trout family. Tommy continues to grow in the criminal world, earning money and power.
Some interesting facts
- The game GTA: San Andreas makes a small reference to Tommy. During the next task, the main character CJ is caught in a shootout at one of the factories. Players can hear a rather interesting mini-dialogue: "Hey, just like in the good old days, yes, Tommy?" “What the hell is Tommy for?”
- Of all the distinctive details of the GTA characters, Tommy Versetti’s clothing is most remembered by the players. Being an Italian, the hero prefers the classical style and loves expensive things. However, despite this, the Hawaiian shirt of Tommy Versetti is that distinctive detail by which he is always recognized.
- We return to GTA: San Andreas: in several stores you can find toy figures of some characters. If you look, then among them there is Versetti.
- Tommy's voice was given by the famous actor Ray Liotta.
- The second trailer for GTA: ViceSityStories shows players a character whose appearance and clothing strongly resemble Versetti. According to the chronology of events, Tommy is still serving his term.
