Object 906 (light amphibious tank): specifications and photos

In the "World of Tanks" today there is a fairly large number of models of both Soviet and German, American equipment that can be used. At the same time, it is worth paying attention to the fact that the project is not closed - new tanks are constantly added in it, old ones are improved, work is ongoing to bring the game closer to reality. Therefore, discussions are constantly ongoing about which tank will be introduced into the game and which will not. One of the hottest topics for discussion is Object 906, a light amphibious tank that belongs to Soviet technology. He is not in the game, but many gamers who love this project insist on being introduced in one of the updates. So now itโ€™s worth considering what Object 906 was and why everyone wants it so that it is still available to players. And also the reasons why this is not worth it.

Prototype

We must start with the fact that the Object 906 has never been a full-fledged serial tank - this is a prototype that has not received serious confirmation and agreement to release. In total, only six of these tanks were released in history, and only one has survived to this day. Therefore, the first reason that this object is not reflected in the World of Tanks game is already there - it is not so popular, and therefore it cannot be said to be very effective. If the opposite could be argued, then most likely this machine would still have received great publicity and was mass-produced. But fact is fact - Object 906 remained at the prototype stage. But still, what is he like? How can it be useful to the players of the World of Tanks?

Object Overview

So, Object 906 is a tank with a classic layout, but at the same time able to swim. Its weight was fifteen tons, which determined its ability, and also attributed it to the division of light tanks. To control this machine, only three people were required, but all this did not affect the fact that after field trials the production of this object was suspended, and it did not enter service. All six models produced remained inactive. That is, we can safely say that Object 906 is a tank that clearly did not succeed. With all his lightness and ability to move on water, he was poorly capable.

Tank dimensions

The Soviet PT branch in the World of Tanks is already significantly oversaturated - there are a huge number of different models that have somehow proved to be on the battle fields. Why do users need this object? It is better to consider all the characteristics of this machine in order to be able to understand what tank lovers are so attracted to. Itโ€™s worth starting with its size - they were very small. In length, the car reached only 7.6 meters, and with a gun it increased by less than two meters. The width of the hull did not even reach three meters, the height was a little more than two. Ground clearance was 40 centimeters. As you can see, the dimensions of this tank were quite small, so there could be no doubt - this is a light tank, which is also a floating one. Like any other tank, the Object M906 did not have the most durable armor, which will be discussed later.

Object armor

The thickness of the frontal armor was only fifteen millimeters - such a projectile of any medium tank could penetrate. What can we say about what was going on along the sides and aft - there the armor was only eight millimeters thick. Many Soviet light tanks significantly exceeded these armored indicators, since they were not forced to give up an impressive part of their weight due to the fact that they could sail. Thus, the object turned out to be practically useless - it could overcome any water, but at the same time it could be destroyed on the shore with one exact hit of almost any weapon. The Soviet branch of tanks has PTs with various indicators, but these will obviously be poorly applicable on the battlefield.

But how will Object 906 defend itself on the battlefield? The creators of this machine equipped it with an 85-mm D-58 gun, which, unfortunately, is not represented in the World of Tanks, so it is difficult to judge how effective it would be during the game.

Tank Mobility Level

Soviet branch of tanks

Needless to say, a tank like the Object 906 must survive in every way possible. That is why an engine with a capacity of 300 horsepower is installed on it, which allows it to move quite briskly across the battlefield. In open space, its speed can reach 75 kilometers per hour, but it is worth paying attention to the fact that it can swim at a speed of only 10 kilometers per hour, that is, obstacles significantly slow it down. Therefore, while traveling on water, this light amphibious tank becomes as vulnerable as possible - with its armor and at a speed of ten kilometers per hour, even the most accurate shooter could not take it off. The combination of all these factors influenced the fact that when testing this tank, the result was unsatisfactory. Object 906 was discontinued, did not enter service, and remained just a prototype.

Variations

Naturally, the creators of this tank tried to diversify it, so that, perhaps, other models received more recognition. Therefore, two more types of Object 906 were produced - the same tank equipped with a 90 mm gun, as well as Object 906B, in which the armor material was replaced, and a rocket engine was installed instead of a diesel one. Both that and other model was not made even among six units - each of them represented a single model. After the failure of the main model, one could not expect the success of others - this is what happened. Both the first and second tanks were rejected, their number did not increase above one unit. What is the result? Do users of World of Tanks want a tank to be introduced into the game that in all respects will lose to others? Most likely, the answer lies in improvements.

Creating Your Own Object 906

While the developers of World of Tanks are in no hurry to introduce Object 906 into the game, enthusiastic users are mastering their own counterparts with might and main. They take as a base some other Soviet anti-tank warfare and, based on it, create something similar to the above model. This is done by replacing components, installing similar armor and weapons. But at the same time, so far there have been no reports that the self-made Object 906 was able to conquer the World of Tanks. Naturally, because if you do not artificially improve it, that is, do not increase the chassis, armor, and weapons, then it will be inferior to almost everyone. This tank has one advantage - high speed and maneuverability. But at the same time, all other indicators are at a very low level, which makes him easy prey even for medium tanks. What can I say, if light tanks have thicker armor and are not much inferior to Object 906 in speed - they will also be able to deal with it without problems.

The main reason Object 906 will not be in Tank World

You can talk for a long time about how fast the Object 906 has, but at the same time what thin armor it has, what a weak weapon, and also how many other flaws it has. But there is one point that reduces the likelihood of this machine appearing in the game to almost zero. Everyone should definitely remember that the Object 906 is primarily a floating tank. It was created in order to overcome water obstacles, and not to go around them or get stuck in them. But in the World of Tanks there are no maps where water is present. Here, the function of crossing water on floating tanks is not implemented at all. Therefore, the main function by which this machine could differ from others in the game will simply be absent. And then the logical question arises as to why introduce Object 906 into the game. After all, there are so many light tanks from which they did not lose excess weight to ensure their buoyancy. They are much better suited for the World of Tanks. And taking into account the fact that there are already plenty of Soviet-made vehicles in this game, the commissioning of Object 906 in the World of Tanks looks just as meaningless as in 1963 when the tank was tested in real conditions. Perhaps fans of Soviet technology who play in World of Tanks would like to see absolutely all the cars in the game, but they should understand that this is simply impossible. And even if it were possible, to introduce into the game a tank that didnโ€™t even go into mass production, of which there were only six units in the entire history - this is absolutely irrational. Therefore, you should trust the developers who conduct serious research and analyze the relevance of a particular combat vehicle for the gaming universe, on the basis of which they then decide whether to enter the tank into the game or not.
