Theater Square in Kirov: history and attractions

Each city of our vast country has its own attractions. Young cities boast modern architecture, wide motorways and well-groomed public gardens. There are many new buildings and a fast pace of life. In the old cities that have existed for centuries, you can see interesting architectural monuments, as well as amazing sculptural compositions. This article will focus on a city with a long history, or rather, not about it, but about Theater Square in Kirov.

History

Theater Square in Kirov was founded in 1784, however, at that time it was called Khlebnaya. And it was not an area at all, it was just a crossing of streets almost in the center of the city. Before the war of 1812, Kirov expanded, and, accordingly, a new architectural plan was developed. But, unfortunately, the project of N.I. Kozlova has never been fully implemented. After the war, the city was rebuilding. In 1877, a drama theater was built. It is not surprising that the square soon became known as Teatralnaya. But this name did not last long. In 1975, the government renamed it the Constitution Square, but in 1989 the historical name was returned.

The size of the Theater Square in Kirov is impressive, and so that the free space was not empty, the governor in 1933 decided to erect a monument to Lenin. An individual project was even commissioned for this monument. But, as often happens, there was not enough money to erect the sculpture, and a standardized bronze figure had to be set up.

One of them is the construction of ice sculptures. These statues are organically distributed over a large space and for a long time delight the townspeople. On New Year's Eve, on Teatralnaya Square, a Christmas tree and a stage are set, on which both urban talents and foreign and domestic stars perform.

The unique wish tree β€œplanted” by V. Selezenev is one of the most interesting objects of street art. This sculpture is made in the form of a 6-meter oak, which is incredibly similar to its living original. The tree even has leaves made of iron and attached to the trunk by springs. Such fastening allows metal foliage to "rustle" in the wind. The center of the composition, of course, is the ear, in which you need to whisper your innermost desire.

Art Museum. Vasnetsov is a historical landmark of the square. His fund contains more than 20 thousand exhibits, including paintings, graphic works and products of decorative and applied art. In 1910, the museum was opened thanks to the efforts of the Vasnetsov brothers, but in the Soviet period the government nationalized it. Today, all the iconic exhibitions, art master classes, classes with children and adults are held precisely in the walls of the museum on Theater Square.

How to get there

The Kirov Theater Square is located in the city center at the intersection of three streets: Moskovskaya, Liebknecht and Karl Marx. You can get to it on the first trolleybus or bus number 88.
