Anemones - growing and care

It is worth noting that the anemone, the cultivation of which is quite common in our country, belongs to the Lyutikov family. The Latin name "anemone" comes from the Greek "anemos", which in translation sounds like "wind". It was believed that its petals in windy weather were swelled by the wind. For many, anemone flowering means the arrival of spring. Indeed, already in March, our native hardwood forests were covered with a carpet of white anemones. The longer the winter, the more joy for the eyes from enjoying the flowers of anemone among the bare trees and shrubs. Thanks to selection, you can find different colors of this flower - from white to cream, yellow and blue.

Anemone creates a horizontal rhizome, from which leaves, consisting of 2-3 leaves, sprout. Between them there is a trunk of 10-12 cm. In our climate, this flower appears in early spring, creating beautiful solid white carpets. Anemone begins to bloom in March and finish flowering in May. After this, the leaves gradually disappear.

It should be noted that anemones, the cultivation of which is possible at home, are divided into several groups. Greek anemone grows in the countries of the Balkan Peninsula and in Asia, as well as in deciduous forests. It reaches 10 cm in height and forms rather thick rhizomes. Japanese anemones, the cultivation of which in our country began a hundred years ago, bloom from late July to August, sometimes in late autumn. Hybrid anemone grows to one and a half meters and blooms from July to the first frost. The flowers are quite large, about 7 cm in diameter, white or pink.

So how to plant anemones? They require quite partial shade, but many species can survive in a sunny place. Anemone planting time depends on the species and it can be produced in September or November, as well as in April or May. Soaked on the day before planting, the bulbs in warm water are planted about 5 centimeters in the ground.

If you missed the deadlines for the autumn planting of bulbs, you do not need to wait until spring. You can buy already rooted cuttings and feel free to plant them in your garden. The best varieties form a carpet, which is very beautiful during flowering. Anemone Blanda blooms in February. And the alpine anemone opens its white, purple or blue flowers in April. Grove anemone blooms from February to May, and bright anemone blooms in March.

In the garden, anemones, the cultivation of which can be carried out almost all spring, grows on soils that are quite fertile and contain calcium. It is resistant to drought, but it is better to avoid the position of direct sunlight.

Multiflora anemones breed from mature seeds that need to be collected at the end of summer. Seeds are sown at the beginning of winter in containers and put on a warm windowsill. The plant sprouts in 20 days, after which seedlings need to be nibbled on 2-3 plants.

Anemones have a superficial root system, so they do not need to be planted deep in the ground. Weeds are best removed manually. In case of prolonged drought, the plant needs to be watered. Anemones grow very fast. Spring species are largely considered self-sowing. And autumn anemones, the cultivation of which is similar, can be divided in the spring or after flowering, since they are not able to produce seeds in our climatic conditions.

Such a beautiful flower as anemone - the cultivation and care of which consists in moderate watering and weeding of weeds, is quite resistant to pests and diseases.

The variety of species of anemones helps to make the garden the place where this flower can delight the entire period of its flowering. These flowers are suitable for rock gardens or flower beds. You can plant them in large numbers, thus forming monochromatic clusters near trees and shrubs.
