What are glass-magnesium sheets used for?

Every year, the market for building materials is replenished due to new developments of manufacturers, which represent a variety of raw materials. It may be noted that with the development of technology, product quality has improved significantly. In addition, the appearance of modified elements and completely innovative processing methods and production methods allows you to get raw materials for construction with characteristics much better than previous products. Such products include glass-magnesium sheets, the use of which has recently been the most common.

What is a glass-magnesium sheet?

glass magnesium sheets

Glass-magnesium sheets (LSU) are plates consisting of two layers:

  • The outer layer (on both sides of the sheet) is made of fiberglass mesh, which gives strength and resistance to various mechanical loads.
  • The inner layer consists of filler (chloride and magnesium oxide, perlite) - environmentally friendly substances with antiseptic properties, which prevents the destruction of the structure and the appearance of fungal formations and mold.

Material application

Magnesium glass sheets are already used in many countries of Europe and Asia. Widespread use is due to the excellent characteristics of the material, such as environmental friendliness, strength and resistance to various types of influences (temperature extremes, chemical reactions and so on).

Apply LSU in the construction of premises for various purposes (industrial, residential and the like). This building material is used for the "dry" type of installation work, which significantly reduces time costs. Moreover, LSU can act as an alternative to the following materials:

  • moisture resistant drywall,
  • gypsum fiber sheet
  • Chipboard and fiberboard,
  • OSB boards,
  • flat slate
  • plywood.

It can also be noted that the products go on sale with an already polished surface, that is, there is no need to prepare a glass-magnesium sheet. The use of finishing materials is not limited, you can use all kinds of design samples:

  • tiles (ceramic, mirror and glass),
  • wallpaper
  • aluminum composite panels ,
  • veneer
  • plastic.

Installation of LSU

Magnesium glass sheets are usually produced in standard sizes - 2.4 m long, 1.2 m wide and 8 mm thick. In this case, the unpolished surface is considered the back side. This type of building material can be attached both to metal and wooden structures (using self-tapping screws), and to surfaces made of synthetic materials, such as polystyrene, expanded polystyrene (glue is used for joining).

Installation work can be carried out in the following order:

glass magnesium sheet mounting

  1. Installation of the crate. It is important when working with vertical surfaces (walls) to remember the distance between the uprights: it should be 0.6 m. The ceiling is mounted with load-bearing profiles, which are installed at intervals of 0.4 m.
  2. Soundproofing. On the back side of the wall profile, you can stick a tape to prevent the penetration of noise.
  3. In the case of using self-tapping screws and screws, the holes for them must first be made using a drill.
  4. Mounting can be carried out both in the transverse direction and in the longitudinal. At the same time, it is better to perform horizontal seams with an interval of at least 0.6 m. The distance between the LSU is from 3 to 5 mm, it is better to start fixing from the center of the sheet in increments of 0.2 m

High-quality execution of work during the construction of residential and other types of premises will ensure the use of such material as glass-magnesium sheet. Its installation is quite simple if you follow the assembly rules.
