DIY mobile workbench: materials, design and assembly

Any master needs a place to perform locksmith work, and it is most convenient to deal with them on a mobile workbench on wheels. Such a locksmith table has an undeniable advantage - if desired, it moves to any convenient place. A workbench on wheels equipped with drawers serves as a storage place for tools and hardware.

Design

An ordinary bench work bench looks unpretentious. This is a table with a thick worktop. As the functionality increases, the workplace is supplemented by drawers, shelves, a power shield for placing the tool and wheels for moving the table around the workshop or garage. In contrast to the stationary bench table, the mobile workbench is equipped with strong wheels mounted on a solid base.

The frame looks like a frame to which a metal or wooden countertop is attached from above. Under the countertop in the cabinet are boxes for storing spare parts and hardware. The tool is attached to a power rack located on the back of the frame and raised above the countertop.

Wooden Workbench

Material selection

Depending on the work performed, the bench has some or other signs. A carpentry workbench looks like a thick long wooden tabletop placed on a wooden or light metal base. The carpentry workbench has a similar design, but at the same time it is 2-3 times shorter, and the countertop is made of solid wood. Boxes and shelves are made of thick plywood or hardboard. The mobile workbench for working with metal is carried out on a strong metal frame, and individual elements can be wooden: shelves and drawers. In general, the garage desktop should not contain wooden components, since there is a high risk of spontaneous combustion due to improper storage of oiled rags.

Rubber wheels for a workbench

Sketch of future construction

Deciding to make a mobile workbench on wheels with your own hands for a garage or workshop, you need to carefully consider the design of the table. The simplest option is a tabletop made of metal 10 mm thick, welded to the frame in the form of a parallelepiped made of pipes or corners. Metal or plastic swivel wheels that can withstand the required load are attached to the base of the table with bolts. For garage conditions, when heavy car parts will be stacked on the countertop, rubber or plastic wheels of large diameter with a metal hub will do.

Assembling the wheels of a mobile workbench

The average dimensions of a mobile workbench are 1.2-2 meters along the length of the countertop, 1 meter wide and 80-90 cm high. The last parameter is better to choose individually, starting from the growth of the master.

There are standless, single and double stand workbenches. The latter are more practical in operation, as they allow you to store more hardware products or spare parts, and in the middle of the countertop there is a place for work. Each drawer contains drawers or simple shelves.

Depending on which hand the master works, the vise on the countertop is attached to the right or left side. The metal mobile workbench on wheels should be equipped with a worktop with rounded corners to avoid personal injury. For the convenience of working at a bench, you will need to install LED-lighting lamps on batteries to avoid tying the workbench to a specific place in the workshop.

Assembly bench

After sketching a sketch of the future design, they proceed to assembly. At this stage, you will need bolts, screws for metal or wood, a screwdriver, an electric drill, a welding machine, a planer or a jigsaw. The list of tools you need depends on the material selected for your workbench. As a material, metal corners, pipes, strips, sheets, boards, timber are selected.

First, the frame of the mobile workbench is assembled so that a strong parallelepiped is obtained. The resulting frame is divided into several parts, depending on the number of future pedestals, which are framed by corners or timber to increase the strength of the structure. If necessary, additional longitudinal and transverse bridges are welded or screwed under the countertop, which increase the rigidity of the structure.

Assembling a workbench frame

After completion of the assembly of the frame, the parallelepiped is turned over, and the rotary wheels are attached to the base with bolts. Then the frame is returned "to its feet" and the countertop is attached. After that, drawers and shelves are mounted in the cabinets, a table lamp is hung and work is completed.
