Do-it-yourself fence made of wood flooring

The most popular material for the construction of fences around the site is corrugated board. Metal fences of different colors fit perfectly into the landscape of large cottages and modest private brick buildings. But if we are talking about a building made of logs, such a fence may look slightly inappropriate. However, there is a way out of the situation.

If you want to build a fence from a profiled sheet around a log house, use a decking under the tree. Such a fence will look organic and will last longer than a tree. You can do the installation of the fence yourself. Read how to do this in our article.

Why corrugated board?

What primarily worries the owner of the site when choosing material for the fence? Its longevity. According to this criterion, a profiled sheet surpasses wood. In addition, the cost of fencing made of metal sheets does not exceed the cost of purchasing edged boards.

If you appreciate the natural material for its natural appearance, wood decking will satisfy your taste preferences.

In addition to the listed advantages, a number of additional advantages of this material can be noted:

  • a light weight;
  • strength;
  • resistance to moisture;
  • duration of operation;
  • slow and uniform fading of the sheet color;
  • ease of installation.

The aesthetic qualities of the professional sheet are also quite high. The rich color scheme makes it easy to choose the option that most successfully fits into the design of your site. Particularly attractive is decking for wood, stone and brick.

Even a novice master can assemble a fence from profiled sheets. Let’s figure out how to do it right.

Preparatory phase: sketching

First, determine the appearance of the fence. Put an initial sketch on paper, taking into account all the features of your site. Select the type of fence. It can be:

  • solid
  • sectional.

If you prefer a section fence, calculate the optimal width of one span. It is better if each section consists of whole sheets. This facilitates the installation process and speeds up the work. Most often, the sheets of corrugated wood (like other colors) have a width of 0.8-1.0 meters. On this indicator and be guided when creating a drawing.

Next, determine the height of the fence. If your budget is limited, do not fence above 1.2 meters. To completely hide the area from prying eyes, select a parameter in the range from 1.6-2.0 meters.

Count the number of support columns and crossbeams. This indicator will be required when calculating materials.

What do you need to create a fence?

For self-assembly of the fence (without welding) you will need the following components:

  1. Profiled sheet. For the fence, wall options with the marking S-8, S-10, S-15, S-20 and S-21 are suitable. To make the fence look beautiful on both sides, purchase a double-sided corrugated board under the tree.
  2. Support racks. For pipes, square pipes with a cross section of 60X40X2 mm or 40 x 40 x 2 mm are suitable. The diameter of round pipes is from 60 to 100 mm.
  3. Lags. Cross bars are made of rectangular pipes 40 x 40 x 2 mm or 40 x 20 x 2 mm. For ease of installation, the width of the crossbar should be equal to half the width of the rack.
  4. Brackets. They are used in cases where the fence from the corrugated board under the tree is assembled without welding.

Do not forget to purchase hardware and special screws with a neoprene gasket. It protects the sheet from the moisture.

You can also stock up on a spray can of appropriate paint to treat chips and scratches on the sheet. The upper edge of the fence is decorated with a decorative end plate.

Rack Installation

Fences for summer cottages made of corrugated wood are usually installed simply in the ground. To build a long-lasting and durable structure, it is required to fill the foundation. Here you can use a simple ribbon version. In this case, the depth of the base should be equal to 1/3 of the height of the support column, and its width should be no less than the width of the posts.

In the trench for the foundation, support posts are installed and driven into the ground. Then a gravel and sand pillow is filled up. Its width is 25 cm. The installed supports are poured with concrete and left to dry completely. The evenness of the footing is controlled by a plumb line or level.

Installation of horizontal rungs

Cross logs are screwed to the support posts using brackets. They are fixed on racks, and then the transverse bars are fixed. The work uses a screwdriver, brackets and large self-tapping screws.

The lower bar is installed 10-15 cm from the level of the base. If the height of the fence is more than 1.5 meters, additional stiffeners are installed in the middle of the section.

sheet mounting

For solid fences, a front mount is used. In this case, the strips are installed in joint to each other, forming a smooth frame. In other versions, they can be fixed behind the pillar or on its sides.

If the project provides for brick pillars, at this stage, laying around the supports is carried out. After that, you can proceed with the installation of corrugated board under the tree.

Finish finish

The skin of the assembled skeleton starts from one of the edges of the fence or from the gate. The first sheet is installed right next to the post (in solid versions - on the post) and screwed to the transverse logs with screws. Fasteners are located after 1 wave.

The second sheet overlaps the previous one by 10 cm. This is approximately one wave. All subsequent sheets are attached in the same way. When fixing corrugated board (woodgrain or any other coloring option - it doesn’t matter) do not save screws. Otherwise, the sheets will bend under the influence of wind and create noise.

Final stage

After sheathing the frame, the support posts should be closed with rubber plugs. Experts recommend covering the top edge of the fence with a decorative bar. It gives the structure a finished look and protects the bare section of the sheet from the effects of rainfall.

If scratches have formed on the material during work, cover these areas with paint, otherwise rust will begin to appear on the exposed metal.

With proper care, this design will last from 15 to 30 years. In this case, the appearance of the fence from the corrugated board under the tree will practically not change. Photos from our article are a visual confirmation of this.
