Simferopol, Central Market - history and modernity

Historians find it difficult to say exactly how old the capital of the Republic of Crimea is the city โ€‹โ€‹of Simferopol. Its territory is populated by people from the III century. BC e.

Being a part of the Crimean Khanate, the Ak-mosque (as it used to be called Simferopol) was already a significant trading platform, successfully located at the intersection of trade routes.

But the Central market appeared in Simferopol only with the advent of the Russian Empire on the Crimean land.

History

In 1784, Simferopol, like the whole Crimea, is part of Russia. Prince G. Potemkin-Tauride, appointed manager of new lands, begins the planned development of the urban territory.

In 1812, during the plague epidemic, the bazaar, formerly located in the area of โ€‹โ€‹Karaimskaya and Odessa streets, was moved outside the city limits, and so it remained there, called the Big Bazaar. The trading place was located on the current Lenin Square, then it was called Bazarnaya. There was a fountain in the center of the square, from which water carriers collected water and transported it throughout the city.

In the 60s of the XX century, by the next anniversary of the revolution, it was decided to demolish the bazaar, improve the territory and build the building of the Council of Ministers. Therefore, in 1958, in Simferopol, the Central market was moved to a small area located nearby at the intersection of Kozlov, Subkha, Sevastopolskaya and Kirova ave.

Central market entry

The market was a platform measuring 200 x 200 m, for the convenience of traders and buyers, counters were installed, a canopy was made to protect from the sun. Collective farmers sold vegetables, herbs and fruits themselves grown in the gardens on the market.

Around the market were state stores.

In fact, being on the outskirts, the market turned into the city center. This became especially noticeable in the 90s, when the Central market began to grow rapidly in Simferopol, occupying the entire territory in front of the Lokomotiv stadium and even the treadmills of the sports complex.

The surrounding streets were filled with traders from the land, but soon they were replaced by small pavilions, the so-called stalls and boutiques.

By the 2000s, the entire territory surrounding the market had turned into a bazaar with all the attendant factors: dirt, unsanitary conditions, smell, homeless people, theft, lawlessness. Driving past the market was difficult due to constant traffic jams.

Current state

In this state, the central market stayed in Simferopol until 2016.

Rest zone

In the summer of 2016, all the stalls, tables, mobile pavilions were removed, as well as traders from the ground or from cars. The territory was cleared and put in order.

Today, a landscaped area with a green recreation area surrounds the central market of Simferopol. The trading part has also undergone changes, large stalls located in capital buildings are replacing small stalls.

Market Stores

Today on the market there are more than 2 thousand trading places.

In the center under a canopy there is a platform where they sell herbs, fruits and vegetables, as well as the local Bird Market.

Indoor Market Pavilions

The meat, fish and dairy departments are located in different pavilions, where sanitary standards are strictly observed.

Stores in the Central market of Simferopol sell a variety of goods (clothing, shoes, carpets, accessories, leather goods, electrical goods, flowers, etc.).

Part of the market is reserved for building materials. Paid parking is available near the market.

How to get there

The market is visible even on the space map, it is the center of the city.

There is a food Central Market in Simferopol at the address: Amet Khan Sultan Square (or the intersection of Subhi and Kozlov Streets). Almost all public transport routes, minibuses, buses and trolleybuses pass through the square.
