The skirt model in several tiers in a modern fashion occupies a special position. This thing can be made of various materials, have any color and texture. And also the number of tiers can vary according to the preference of the woman. For example, a skirt from narrow elements of different shades with the addition of lace inserts looks great. Of course, the more parts a multi-tiered skirt has, the more fun the assembly process becomes.

About Model

The special charm of such a cut is that it creates the effect of a gradual and smooth expansion downward in combination with tightness of the hips. This is the main reason why women often choose dresses with a multi-tiered skirt for an evening out. One cannot but mention young fashionistas, for whom skirts made of multi-colored rustling materials immediately become favorite.

Sewing a product from several tiers is even possible for those who have never done this in their lives. Cutting a multi-tiered skirt consists of cutting strips of rectangular shape. The length and width of these elements is determined in advance. By the way, this step can be called the most difficult in the preparation process. So, we pass to analysis.

Sewing workshop

Below will be described step by step instructions for creating a beautiful and stylish skirt. This model is incredibly easy to sew and the pattern is also simple.

To make a multi-tiered skirt, you will need the following:

  1. A piece of fabric from 1.5 to 2.8 meters, depending on the width of the segment. Any material can be taken, the main thing is to be soft.
  2. Threads matching in color.
  3. Thick threads.
  4. Sewing machine.

Parameter Measurement

To make a pattern, you need to take measurements from body parts:

  1. Waist circumference. Measurement is performed around the narrowest part, just below the navel.
  2. Hip girth. The most prominent spot of the buttocks is measured, approximately 20 cm below the waist.
  3. Estimated skirt length. You need to measure the distance from the waistline to the point where the skirt will end. If, for example, you want to sew a multi-tiered skirt on the floor, then it will be located where the foot ends. Do not forget that a few centimeters will go to turn the bottom.

The pattern of this skirt model is a regular block diagram. Drawing can be applied directly to the material. But before you do this, you need to determine the size of the panels. It will also help to correctly calculate the right amount of tissue.

Advice! If you want to sew a multi-tiered skirt from material with a pattern, it is recommended to choose the option where the image is located along the length. That is, it is necessary that the edge of the fabric passes along the upper and lower parts of the pattern or pattern. In this case, you do not have to stitch the tiers from pieces. The pattern will also be built in a slightly different way. In addition, when choosing a canvas with an image, you should think ahead with what to wear a multi-tiered skirt. Then she definitely will not gather dust in the closet.

Building patterns

The first thing to do is measure your hips and round the result to an integer. Parameter A = indicator of the hips with the addition of 5 centimeters and dividing in half.

To understand what the height of each tier should be, it is necessary to divide the required skirt length by the number of proposed elements. This will be parameter 2. For example, a sample of a multi-tiered skirt from Victoria's Secret has a length of 53.5 centimeters and three tiers. Based on these data, it is calculated B = (1/3 * the length of the skirt) add 6.5 centimeters.

how to sew a tiered skirt

Sample:

  1. Size - 42nd European.
  2. Hip circumference - 96.5 cm.
  3. Product length - 53.5 cm.
  4. Tiers - 19.5 cm.

From here we get: a = 51 cm, b = 24 cm. Do not forget that the final results are allowed to be rounded. We are building a drawing of a skirt, not a motor.

Determine in which direction the pattern or image is located: from top to bottom or along a shared thread.

In order for the skirt to be magnificent, it is necessary to make small assemblies (by the way, if you need a very magnificent product, then the multi-tier skirt made of tulle will turn out like this). To do this, a small amount of fabric is added to the length of the tier, most often assemblies are performed in a 2: 1 ratio. If the material for the product is selected very thin, then the proportion can be changed upwards.

Product Composition

Each tier should consist of two parts: front and back. Start to build a pattern on the fabric (along or across, depending on the picture). For the data, use the AB parameters calculated earlier. The result should be several elements of the future skirt:

  1. The first tier - 1 part of the front and rear.
  2. The second tier - 2 parts of the front and rear.
  3. The third tier - 3 parts of the front and rear.

Tailoring skirts

Not sure how to sew a multi-tiered skirt? The sewing process consists of several stages:

  1. Sew two strips of five centimeters along the short edge between each other. It should make a cord for tying. Bend the part along the long edge and iron. Turn the turn around and turn 6 mm inward on each side. Fold the fold. Take the outer seam along all the tucked edges. Tie the ends of the lace in a knot.
  2. Attach the details of each tier to each other with the outside and sew on the sides. Do not forget to leave a few centimeters for allowances. Overlock or any other method (for example, scallop scissors) process the edges so that the threads do not spill. Iron the seams. The result should be three circles - this is the basis of each tier. You can have as many tiers as you like, we took three for example.
  3. On the lower edge of the last element, make a double narrow hem, about 1 cm, iron and sew.
  4. From the top edge of the first tier, bend inward about three centimeters and iron. This is the space where the gum will subsequently be inserted. Tuck the unfinished edge 6-8 mm and sew it in a circle. At the same time, 2.5 centimeters should be retreated from the bent edge.
  5. Put the second and third tiers of the skirt outward. Change the sewing machine to continuous thread and turn on the zigzag stitch function in large increments. Work around the top of each tier.
  6. Take the bottom part and gently pull the ends of the thread out of the winding seam, thus creating wrinkles on the fabric. When the length of this tier is equal to the size of the lower edge of the second element, tie the ends of the elongated thread together. Distribute the folds around the perimeter evenly. If you don’t have a machine and strong threads at hand, you can make assemblies by manually treating the edge with a thick thread.
  7. Turn the tier, located in the middle, and combine its lower edge with the upper part of the last tier (where the folds are), folding them together, with the outer sides to each other. Sew these two items by hand along the line that is located under the zigzag seam. Turn the middle part out and straighten the folds if necessary. Sew on the sewing machine the line where you previously sketched manually. Pull the sturdy thread by pulling the fabric into the assemblies.
  8. Repeat the sixth and seventh steps in order to connect the upper tier with the middle.
  9. Treat all assembled seams with an overlock.
  10. Make a small hole 2-2.5 cm from the outside, in the place where the elastic is inserted. You can make it a device for opening seams.
  11. Thread the gum or string through the hole. Done!

This simple pattern allows you to sew a long multi-tiered skirt: short, medium length, maxi. Experiment and indulge yourself with new things!

Skirt with tiers for girls

This cute little thing in the wardrobe of a little girl can become the most beloved. The multi-tiered skirt for the girl sits perfectly on the figure and looks elegant. And most importantly, it is very easy to sew. Want to learn how to make this thing yourself? Then let's get started soon.

You will need the material you like (cotton, satin, knitwear). In addition, a multi-tiered skirt made of tulle and other form-keeping fabrics looks great. But do not use heavy and too dense cloths.

Fabric calculation

The consumption of material depends on the size of the skirt that you want to get in the end. For example, for a girl aged 4-5 years, about 1 meter of canvas will be required.

Width

In order to calculate the width of the product, measure the child’s waist at the place where the skirt will begin. If you decide to make a skirt with a low rise, then the hip area should be measured. And for a skirt, you need an elastic band, its length should be the same as the waist, plus 3-4 cm for overlapping. The width of the connecting elements is calculated by multiplying the waist parameters by one and a half centimeters. The width of the folds is multiplied by two centimeters.

Length of the product

Decide in advance how long your skirt will be: a few centimeters above the knee or, conversely, a little lower? Measure the distance from the waistline to the point where the hem of the skirt will be. After that, you can make your own small mathematical calculations.

In addition, you need to understand how many ruffles and pleats you want to make and how magnificent they should be. When thinking over the product, keep in mind that the belt will give an extra length to the skirt.

The manufacturing process of the product consists of several simple steps:

  1. Begin by cutting out all the stripes. You will need one connecting element and one frill for the first tier. If the material has a width narrower than what you require, then you can sew together a couple of strips to make one whole.
  2. After you cut all the strips, fold each connecting element in half and sweep the ends on the right side at a distance of 1-2 cm from the edge. After that, treat the edges with a zigzag seam using an overlock or leave as is. It is still recommended to process the edges, this is a guarantee that the skirt will not tear over time and does not open from socks and washes. Set the finished parts aside and start working with ruffles.
  3. Decide how you will process the edges of the frills. If you have a basting machine, sew them on it. This will make the product even lighter and more airy, moreover, such processing looks pretty nice. If you do not have an overlock, then do not worry much. You can get out of the situation in a simple way - bend the edge 1 cm inward, iron and sew this bend.
  4. After finishing all the edges, assemble each of the strips so that you get a frill. As a result, they should be the same length as the connecting elements.
  5. Next, collect the frills by tightening the thread. Align each part along the length of the connecting part, attach to each other, pin with pins and sew. Begin from the last tier. Zigzag the bottom edge.
  6. Now you have three finished tiers that you need to connect together. Smooth all seams with a steaming iron.
  7. The last tier should consist of two elements, and all the rest - of three. Therefore, before attaching the last row to the middle, they must be sewn together. Sew the edges with a zigzag seam and steam.
  8. Follow the same steps with all other tiers.
  9. We turn to the last part - making a belt for a skirt. Take a wide elastic band and fix it at the top edge of the product. It should already be processed. Measure the desired width and fold the fabric inward, leaving a small margin. Iron this area well. Hem the belt on a typewriter, not forgetting to leave a gap for the rubber band.
  10. Make sure the elastic does not twist inside the belt and sew the ends together. It remains to sew up the gap, and the skirt is ready!
