The disadvantages of finishing the ceiling with whitewashing include its inability to withstand high humidity and a negative reaction to water, as well as the high mark during the work.

Considering the budget types of ceilings, many prefer this option, as it is practical and easy to maintain.
The advantages of painting, along with low costs for its implementation, include the ability to choose any color or shade.
As for the shortcomings, they are largely similar to the minuses of whitewashing. In particular, labor-intensive preparatory work is required before painting. In addition, this finish is short-lived and it has a tendency to the appearance of small cracks on the coating.
Wallpapering

Adhesive ceilings
Finishing with special tiles looks beautiful and has many advantages. These include the lack of need for special ground preparation. Typically, tiles are made of polystyrene foam and are extremely lightweight. Manufacturers produce options with different relief and graphic patterns.
Adhesive ceilings are easy to install and can be repaired by replacing damaged or fallen off tiles. As already mentioned, it can be glued to the surface of the ceiling without laborious work. In particular, tiles can mask cracks and slight flaws.

Stretch ceiling
This is one of the most beautiful finishes, which allows designers to create original interiors in different styles.
Stretch ceilings are made of durable polymer materials. They can be made in a wide range of colors and it is possible to apply a picture by photo printing.
In addition to exceptional beauty, such designs are distinguished by durability and water resistance. This means that your repair will not suffer, even if the neighbors from above decide to arrange a “global flood” for you. The advantages of tension structures are also their incombustibility, high strength, lack of restrictions in the fields of application, as well as excellent insulating properties.

- installation complexity;
- sagging in case of very hot weather or temperature rise;
- deterioration in elasticity.
In addition, suspended ceilings, like any other suspended structures, “hide” during installation almost 20 cm of the space of the room. This makes them not the best option for use in rooms of small height.
Hemming Options
The main difference between such ceilings is the installation on profiles that are installed directly on the floor. This means that this type of false ceilings does not hide the space and is well suited for any room.
At the same time, any small irregularities on the surface of the floors can be hidden behind such structures.
Modules of false ceilings can be made of MDF, particleboard, plastic, metal or drywall.
The disadvantages of such coatings include the impossibility of installing fixtures on the ceiling, the large weight of the structure and the relatively small selection of decorative solutions.

For such residential buildings, the best choice is repair with environmentally friendly materials. In particular, wood paneling is a great option for ceilings. This versatile decoration method will decorate any private home. The following options are possible:
- Lining. This material is used most often. It is a board specially treated and equipped with a groove and tongue for easy installation. Even a person who does not have much experience in repair work can clap the ceiling with a lining. Its distinctive features are strength and durability. In addition, the lining is recognized as an excellent sound insulator.
- Plywood. To decorate the ceiling in a wooden house, it is rarely used. However, with the help of plywood, you can create an original interior design, as well as arrange a home without any extra cost. Today, the market offers options with a decorative layer made of asbestos paper, plastic, etc.
- Veneer. Such a finish is able to completely imitate the appearance of any kind of wood. At the same time, the cost of the panels is several times higher than the price of the lining, and their finishing options are more diverse.

Other finishes for wooden ceilings
If the options above do not suit you, then pay attention to cheap and affordable plaster.
It is superimposed on a mesh of shingles stuffed between the crossbars. The solution adheres to the shingles and embossed mesh. This provides strength and durability of the coating. It is impossible to plaster the ceiling on your own, without having a certain skill in carrying out such work, as this is a complex and time-consuming procedure that is best left to professionals.
Drywall is also an inexpensive option. Among other things, it allows you to create original multi-level ceiling structures and perfectly conceals defects.
Many owners of private wooden houses prefer to use such a durable and beautiful look, like a stretch ceiling. However, experts recommend installation only 2-3 years after the completion of the construction of the dwelling.
