The future US general was born in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1973, he graduated from high school at Boston College. Four years later, he received a bachelor's degree from St. Michael's College of Vermont. In parallel with college, he was trained as a reserve officer. This fact subsequently helped him enlist in the US Marine Corps, which is one of the most prestigious military units of the American army.
It is worth noting that during the passage of military service, this US general did not stop his education for a minute. During his service in command positions, he graduated from several additional educational institutions in which he attended courses in operational art and successfully graduated from the magistracy of Georgetown University.
