Radioactive Man is one of the negative characters in the Marvel comic book series. He is known mainly to fans of the company's paper products, not fans of superhero movies.
Marvel comics
Marvel is one of the largest American comic book companies. In our country, has gained wide fame thanks to a series of movie screenings. The main characters of the films are Spider-Man, Hulk, Daredevil, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, X-Men and some others.
But our article will not be dedicated to superheroes, but to one of their opponents, known as Radioactive Man. Marvel Comics created a single fictional universe in which all the created heroes and villains live, calling it Earth-616. It was in this world that our character was born.
Appearance
The real name of Radioactive Man is Chen Lu. He originally lived in China, where he studied the effects of radiation on people. In the life of the scientist, everything was calm until army officials turned to him with a request to create a suit that would help defeat Thor. Lou took up the development, but not for the government, but in order to get incredible power itself. That is why he began to experiment with himself. The result of these experiments was the emergence of a villain who became known as Radioactive Man.
As soon as Chen got superpowers, he went to fight Thor in New York. In the first battle, Lou won, subjugating Thor's mind. But at the second meeting, the god of thunder managed to create a tornado and send the villain in it to his homeland. When Chen arrived in China, a massive explosion occurred, and he was considered dead.
Avengers
The radioactive man became one of the main opponents of the Avengers, joining the League of Masters of Evil. The team, led by Baron Zemo, and then Ultron, tried to capture New York twice. However, the Avengers managed to repulse the villains and did not allow them to realize their cunning plan.
The radioactive person had to flee. So he gets to Vietnam, where together with the Titanium man and the Red Dynamo he creates the Titanic Three. The members of this organization decided to end crime and take the path of correction by fighting on the side of good.
The Avengers accidentally find themselves in Vietnam, and one of the local criminals, Slasher, decides that they appeared to his liking. By cunning, he managed to attract the Titanic Three to his side and make him fight the Avengers. However, during the battle, Slasher got scared and tried to escape, leaving everything looted. After that, the Titanic Three caught him and gave it to the Avengers. Subsequently, the organization broke up for unknown reasons, and all its members went their own way.
Chen returned to New York. Here he was found by the Egghead, who wanted to revive the Masters of Evil, and offered to join the team. Lou agreed. Together they tried to defeat the Avengers again, but failed again.
Against Iron Man
A radioactive person is a fictional character, but his actions, thoughts and desires are portrayed as realistically as possible. And after another failure, Chen returns to China, where he decides to take revenge on his enemies. To do this, he begins to work for Mandarin and takes an active part in the fight against Iron Man (Tony Stark), which prevents villains from transporting equipment and weapons.
During the battle of Radioactive Man with Stark, both of them find themselves locked up in prison. Shortly before this, a prisoner escaped from there, and the security system of the correctional institution was activated. Now, in order to break out, the hero and the villain had to act together. However, Iron Man with great difficulty managed to convince Chen to work together. As a result, they managed to turn off the deadly reactor located in the bowels of the prison, free themselves and even stop the escape.
But this collaboration did not reconcile Radioactive Man and Stark. After some time, Chen attempted to destroy Stark International by de-energizing it. A huge effort cost Iron Man to defeat the eternal enemy and prevent the collapse of his company.
Homecoming and Transfiguration
The radioactive man in the comics is not only a villain, but also a scientist. Therefore, Chen Lu investigated how exactly radiation changed him and what effect she had after that. Thanks to a long introspection, he was able to understand that the fluctuations of radioactive radiation, which he constantly senses, greatly affect his emotions. Hence his desire to take over the world, to cause evil to people, selfish aspirations and impulses. Realizing that all this time he simply blindly obeyed his mood swings, Chen returned to China. Here he decides to atone for his guilt by becoming a national hero. To do this, he compiles a list of all those who somehow suffered from his hands. This "Account", which the hero set himself, he has to pay.
At the same time, several representatives of Atlantis, calling themselves the Phantom Five, attacked China. Chen understands that he alone will not defeat the enemy, so he turns to the Thunderbolt superhero team for help. Thanks to this help, I manage to cope with the Sea People. After the victory, Lou joins the Thunderbolts.
However, Chen did not stay with them for long. He was soon expelled for having infected one of the members of the Phantom Five with radiation. Returning to Atlantis, the infected begins to emit harmful waves. After the infection was discovered, Chen refuses to absorb the radiation and believes that he has the right to avenge the damage caused to his country. Only a reminder of the compiled “Account” compels Radioactive Man to rid the Atlanteans of a terrible death.
After leaving the Thunders, Chen returns to his homeland.
Another Radioactive Man
There is another character endowed with the same abilities as Lou. He is from Russia and his name is Igor Stanchek. He appeared in comics about the Black Panther, where he acted as a mercenary who invaded the kingdom of Wakanda.
Despite their similarities, Stanchek and Chen have nothing in common and are not even familiar with.
Abilities
Radioactive Man is a fictional character from the Marvel Comics Universe. Therefore, it is not surprising that he has inhuman abilities, among which the following deserve special attention:
- Radiation Control - Chen can increase and decrease the level of radiation emitted by his body. Thanks to this ability, he can deprive other characters of their strength by irradiating them.
- Hypnotic trance - radioactive radiation affects the human mind, subordinating it to the will of Chen.
- Energy shots - emitting radioactive waves in different ways, Lou can create clots of energy and “shoot” them. In addition, it can create flashes of blinding light.
- Electromagnetic Radiation - Chen can cause radiation to others, causing them disorientation, headaches and hostility to other people.
- Creation of a force field - with the help of radiation, Lu creates around him a protective field that protects him from most attacks, including Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor.
- Huge physical strength - radioactive energy, penetrating the body of a scientist, gives him incredible physical power.
Weaknesses
Not only strength, but also a number of weaknesses are possessed by Radioactive man (“Marvel” - the creators of this character). He cannot control the strength of the radiation emitted by his body; he can only muffle it by wearing a protective suit. The intensity of radiation also affects the emotions of Chen Lu, which is why it is very difficult for him to control.
The Radioactive Man in The Simpsons
In the animated series "The Simpsons" there is a series of comics whose main character was called Radioactive Man.
The story of this character is simple. He was an ordinary person, until one day one of his legs caught on the barbed wire of a fence surrounding a nuclear testing ground. At that moment, an explosion occurred, but instead of dying from radiation, our hero acquired wonderful abilities and became a Radioactive person. But unlike the hero of Marvel, he sided with the good, devoting his life to fighting evil.
