Singapore is a wealthy state in Southeast Asia, known for its harsh laws and high standard of living. Independence was acquired by the country relatively recently, and therefore all symbolism arose in the mid-twentieth century. So the flag of Singapore appeared only in 1959.

Singapore has long been one of the British colonies in Southeast Asia. The United Kingdom took control of the island in 1819, only in 1959 removing custody from the state. Thus, it is not surprising that for all these 140 years, Union Jack has been the flag of Singapore, the photo and image of which are familiar to probably every inhabitant of the planet.
After getting rid of the British, the nation faced the question of how to continue. Of course, it was decided to create their own state symbols. Thus, on December 3, 1959, the flag of Singapore was adopted, which came to the present in that form. However, the state itself was part of Malaysia for 6 years, finally deciding to free itself from any dependence on anyone only in 1965, due to a conflict with its northern neighbor.
Description and meaning
The color scheme of the main symbol of the country is a combination of two colors: red and white. The top of the flag is painted first, the bottom is the second. In addition, the banner has a white crescent moon, which is bordered by five stars located to the right of it.
According to the state interpretation, the flag of Singapore has the following meaning:
- Red color symbolizes the equality and brotherhood of the people living in the country.
- White means virtue and purity.
- The crescent moon embodies the idea of the rapid development of a young state.
- Five stars are assigned the roles of the ideals of the nation: justice, democracy, peace, equality and progress.
Curious facts
Initially, there were three stars on the flag of Singapore, but the country's leadership decided that this way the banner would be associated with the symbols of the Communists of Malaysia, having a similar standard. This was very undesirable, since the state did its best to discard Marxist ideals, so two more pentagonal figures were added.
The inclusion of a white strip flag is obliged again to the Communists. Since the majority
of Singapore's population is Chinese, the official color of the country's flag is red, it is not surprising that they wanted to make the flag of this state in this tone. However, fearing strong associations with the communist parties of different countries, the state government decided to add a white streak, dispelling any doubts about the democratic path of the young nation.
Singapore is a very young state, but with an established symbolism and form of government. It was the correct guidelines laid down during the creation of the country that helped the nation break out of the third world into a higher cohort.
