Rubble stone - an indispensable building material

Rubble stone is one of the oldest building materials. One instance can be up to 40 kg in weight and up to 50 cm in size. It happens in the form of large pieces of irregular shape, yellowish or green-gray. The source of extraction of this material is the territory of limestone, sandstone, dolomite, shell rock, and other igneous and metamorphic rocks. Very rarely, it is extracted from granite.

Three types of boot

There are three types of stone. Torn - it is received as a result of blasting. Postellate - they break it out of layered rocks. Limestone - it is extracted from metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, which have a shale structure. The stone quarry stone has the shape of a slab, however, it is very uneven. The same can be said of the bedding rubble stone. These plates, despite their unevenness, have the same qualities as a ragged look. But they are more convenient to use during construction, since they almost do not require additional costs for masonry. Whereas in addition to the torn boot, other materials are required. To fill up the voids formed during masonry, you need small stones and a solution. Although quarry stone is mined by blasting, certain requirements apply to it. The structure should be homogeneous, without impurities of clay and loose rocks, not have cracks and signs of delamination.

Main characteristics

Very durable stone. Its strength depends on where it was mined: from light rocks, heavy sedimentary or igneous. Depending on this, the strength is measured in the range from 2 to 30 MPa. Another of the excellent properties of this stone is frost resistance. It should be at least 15 cycles. This means that the rubble stone was frozen and thawed at least 15 times and at the same time did not crumble and delaminate, did not lose more than 5% in weight, and it can be used in construction. When struck with a hammer, the stone should make a clear sound. This indicates its high quality. Conversely, a dull sound means a large amount of impurities of clay and other rocks. Such a boot can be easily broken with one blow of a hammer (weighing 1 kg), and it will crumble into rubble. Therefore, substandard material is processed into gravel. For concrete masonry, rubble stone is used, the price of which is significantly lower than the price of the same material intended for facing.

Construction application

The stone is well suited for laying the foundation of monumental buildings, hydraulic and other engineering objects. Masonry of rubble stone is also used for the construction of sedimentation tanks, reservoirs, sewers and buildings that will not be heated. In this case, the weight of the stone should be no more than 30 kg. Very large stones are pre-split with a sledgehammer into pieces of suitable size. A small fence can be laid out with a boot by the dry masonry method. It does not use a solution for bonding. For a taller building, a binder solution is needed. This is one of the most worthy building materials. Its price varies from 1,500 to 20,000 rubles per ton. Documents are issued for each batch, which indicate the source breed, size of the pieces, marks of frost resistance and strength.
