The city of Krasnoyarsk has its own officially approved at the state level symbols: coat of arms and flag. It is about them, their occurrence and significance that will be discussed in this article.
Flag of Krasnoyarsk
The flag of Krasnoyarsk was officially adopted in 2004 on September 29. It looks like a canvas of rectangular shape, divided into four equal parts by stripes of yellow. Rectangles of blue color are located on the top right and bottom left, and the remaining places, respectively, are red. The emblem of the city of Krasnoyarsk is located in the very center of the flag. It depicts a shield and a gilded lion holding tools (a shovel and sickle).
Flag colors meaning
The official meaning of the colors on the flag is known:
- red is determination, strength and courage;
- yellow (gold) represents wealth, abundance and prosperity;
- blue color means greatness and beauty;
- rage and courage is symbolized by a lion.
Prior to the approval of the final version of the flag in September 2004, the shield was crowned with a crown of five fortress towers, bordered below by a wreath of laurel leaves. But the crown was abolished.
Creation of the coat of arms
Unlike the flag, the coat of arms of Krasnoyarsk has a long history. The first symbol was created back in 1804. It was at this time that Krasnoyarsk belonged to the Tomsk province. The coat of arms looked like a shield divided in half. A silver horse on a green background was depicted above, and a red mountain below. The horse was a symbol of the Tomsk province, and Krasnoyarsk is known for its red rocks.
In 1824 the Yenisei province was formed, with the administrative center in Krasnoyarsk. The appearance of the coat of arms has changed somewhat, the horse turned white and ran to the right. And in 1836, the coat of arms project was proposed, but never approved. In 1850, several options were also proposed, but not one was adopted.
The new coat of arms of Krasnoyarsk, depicting a golden lion with tools on a red shield, was approved in November 1851 in 1851. The predator acted as a symbol of courage and strength, and a sickle and a shovel represent agriculture and gold mining - the main occupations of people in the city, located on the banks of the Yenisei. It was the main center for gold mining in Siberia. In 1859, three towers appeared above the shield, and behind it crossed hammers with the Alexander ribbon. So the city of Krasnoyarsk received a new symbolism that lasted until 1994. Subsequently, the hammers and tape were removed.
Modern coat of arms
In 2007, the City Council of Krasnoyarsk approved the final version of the coat of arms, that is how we know it now. A silver horse and a unicorn appeared on the image, holding a shield on both sides. Each detail of the solemn coat of arms has its own meaning, which is officially documented:
- the unicorn is a symbol of purity;
- horse - power and courage;
- silver represents the snowy expanses of Siberia and the pure thoughts of the inhabitants of the city;
- crown means the primacy of the city in its region;
- the pattern with plants under the shield was used in folk art;
- ribbon means the award of the city with the Order of the Great October Revolution;
- red color represents the unique beauty of nature, as well as the industriousness of the inhabitants of Krasnoyarsk;
- Golden color - prosperity, prosperity and wealth of the city.
The coat of arms of Krasnoyarsk has remained unchanged to this day.
Coat of arms
The emblem of Krasnoyarsk can also be used in the 2004 edition, without a unicorn, horse and foot. It can be depicted in one color, as well as in the form of a figure of a lion, without a shield. The use of the solemn coat of arms with the holders of shields is permitted only in state institutions of the city, on its website or on the websites of self-government bodies, as well as on letters and badges during official events. Souvenirs with a solemn emblem can be used only during the celebration of the anniversary dates of the city or as gifts to officials during visits of government and international delegations.
