There are several reasons why a common cold occurs in an infant, and not all of them are something dangerous and serious.
1. Physiological runny nose of the baby. This type of runny nose is due to the fact that the child has recently been born. Its mucosa conducts a so-called check, thanks to which it can determine how much mucus should be in the nose for comfortable breathing. The dry mode has already been tested, now the time is raw. Such a runny nose does not need to be treated , it will end on its own when the baby's nose is fully adapted to the environment. To facilitate breathing, you can only instill saline solutions or saline half a pipette into the nostril. After a couple of minutes, the snot itself will come out with the solution or the crumbs will simply swallow them, which is not at all scary.
2. The teeth are cut. Sometimes a runny nose in an infant can occur when teething. It's quite normal. Also during this period, fever, diarrhea, or constipation may occur.
3. Rhinitis. It happens that the crumbs could be cold or catch a cold. In this case, the cause of the common cold is an infection. Symptoms of acute rhinitis are usually frequent sneezing, tearing and yellow-green mucous discharge from the nose. If you find such symptoms in your child, do not hesitate to call a doctor, especially if the child is less than two months old.
Not always a runny nose is a separate disease, sometimes it can manifest itself as a symptom of another disease. This is a very serious situation when a baby is sick . Cough and runny nose together are most common. And they talk about the presence of a cold.
Treatment of the common cold in an infant
When this ailment appears in a baby, first of all it is worth calling a doctor at home, it is needed to accurately determine the nature of the common cold and the reasons for its appearance. In the meantime, the doctor is on the way, help the child on his own. To begin with, try to suck out the mucus, this is especially necessary if it prevents the baby from sucking. This must be done very carefully so as not to harm the small nose. For these purposes, you need to use special children's aspirators or a regular pharmacy pear of a small size and always with a soft tip. If the squirrel is very thick and sits very far away, which does not allow them to suck, then first drop three drops of saline into the nose. You can also use ready-made means "Aquamaris" or "Aqualor". Five minutes later, try sucking off the mucus again.
If a runny nose in an infant is accompanied by edema, then your doctor may recommend vasoconstrictor drugs. Drops designed specifically for young children are harmless, but you should not use them for more than three days in a row.
