"The Young Lady-Peasant", a brief summary and history of creation

The “Young Lady-Peasant”, the brief content of which we will consider, is included in the cycle called by A. Pushkin “Belkin's Tales”. These are the first prose works completed by the writer. They were created in Boldino in 1930 and came out as a separate book. The story "The Young Lady-Peasant" completes this cycle.

An interesting analogy that many researchers see between the works of Karamzin and Pushkin.

Young lady peasant
The fate of “Poor Liza” is somewhat repeated by The Young Lady-Peasant”, the brief content of which coincides with the sensational work before, but, however, with well-known denominations.

In a remote province there lived two landlord neighbors - Berestov and Murom. Due to the difference in attitude to housekeeping, they did not get along much. If Berestov is a zealous landlord who managed to triple the income of his estate, then Muromsky, on the contrary, was a “real Russian gentleman”, who squandered most of his property and continued an unjustified lifestyle in an “English manner”.

The summary of the “Young Peasant Woman” cannot convey all the details of the life of these landowners. But we know that Berestov had a son Aleksey, who dreamed of becoming a military man and who enjoyed the fame of a sad, disappointed youth in the neighboring villages. Although, of course, it was only a mask to attract the attention of romantic district ladies.

Muromsky raised his only daughter Lisa in English. And, having grown up in the Russian hinterland, spoiled and in no way knowing refusal, the "Englishwoman" decided at all costs to get acquainted with Alexei.

To help the girl comes her faithful servant-confidante Nastya. The two of them come up with the idea to talk with the young man, without arousing suspicion: Lisa will dress up as a peasant and go to the forest, where the young master often hunts! About how two girls thought over the entire masquerade, tells the "Young Lady Peasant." The summary cannot contain all the fascinating details of their fiction.

Of course, once meeting a lovely village girl on the path, Alexei does not even know who is in front of him. Called Akulina, the daughter of a blacksmith, the girl is so good and unusual that after a few meetings the young master was already in love with her. Needless to say: our “Akulina” was also full of tender feelings for Alexei.

But she didn’t even dare to think of any recognition. After all, their fathers are irreconcilably at odds, and even admitting to the deceit that has gone so far is embarrassing. And Alexei, though he was thinking about their relationship, he still understood that there was too much distance between him and the peasant girl to be overcome.

And as the “Young Lady Peasant”, the summary of which we cite, tells, the case intervened.

Muromsky and Berestov collided on a hunt. Murom’s horse bore, and he fell. His neighbor rushed to the rescue and offered to take a break from the incident at his estate. This is how relations between former enemies are restored.

In continuation of these relations, Berestov decides to marry his son to a neighboring young lady and notifies him of this. The experiences of the unfortunate woman are described in detail by The Young Lady Peasant. Summary can only tell what happened next. Alex decides to talk with Muromsky's daughter, because he does not love her! And with his sweet Akulin, he writes a fiery letter. And what was his surprise when, entering without a report into the house of Murom, he found his beloved with a letter by the window!

Thus ends the ironic-sentimental work, which was composed by A. S. Pushkin (“The Young Lady-Peasant”). Reading, of course, is not necessary for a brief summary, but we hope that it will help you understand how interesting the story itself is.
