M. M. Prishvin (1873–1954) is an excellent prose writer and publicist. A rare Russian writer would be able to penetrate so deeply into the life of nature, make so many subtle observations and pass them on to the reader. He created his own special, pure Russian language that is spoken in his native land, and the writer himself heard it from his mother and learned to write it in it.
Short biography of the author
M. Prishvin was born in the Oryol region. This land gave Russia the best prose writers and poets - I. Turgenev, N. Leskov, I. Bunin, A. Fet. It is no coincidence that the talent of M. Prishvin began to flourish here. If his father had not lost and suddenly died, if his mother had not had to raise five children, it is difficult to predict what life would be like Mikhail Mikhailovich. After graduating from the University of Leipzig, having worked as an agronomist and marrying a simple peasant girl, M. Prishvin realized that his life path was concluded in literary work. He went north in 1907 and wrote his first book, In the Land of Frightened Birds. How many more will be! Children are especially attracted to stories about his dogs and animals. I must say that he became a hunter by accident. It's just that M. Prishvin was presented with a hunting rifle, and dogs were the love of his life.
Later, when he became a wise man, he preferred a camera with a gun. The writer was very fond of sitting on a stump in the forest and writing down various stories, and the dog, curled up in a ball, lay at his feet. One of them - about a hare, the writer placed in the collection "Lisichkin bread". It contains stories that Prishvin wrote in different years. "Blue bast" (a summary of which will be described below) combines with the stories about animals of this cycle.
What happened in the forest?
Through the forest began to lead the road. To do this, they cut down trees with even clearings. All large trunks were taken away in an unknown direction, but they left mountains of brushwood, which did not interfere with anyone walking on the green corridor.
There is a traveler, and from two sides a wall of the forest, and the sky turns blue in front. So begins his unhurried narrative Prishvin. Blue bast shoe (a brief summary of a small one and a half page tale can be told literally in a nutshell) has not yet appeared. The brushwood, or rookery, as the author calls it, remained to winter in the forest and did not bother anyone.
Where have the hares gone?
Autumn came, and hunters unanimously began to complain that the hares, due to the noise of felling, had left the forest. Only one Rodionych after the powders said that the hare lies under the rookery.
All hunters called the hare "slash", one Rodionych called him "blue bast shoe". That's what Prishvin called his work - “Blue Boots”. The summary of the story is continued by the reasoning of the author, who believes that such a name for a hare is no less suitable than a slash. “Just as there are no blue bast shoes in the world, so there are no slashes,” the writer notes.
Hunt at dawn
What happened next, Prishvin himself says. The blue bast shoe (we continue to outline the history of the cunning hare) hid under a rookery, and its traces indicated this. There were no traces back. So, the hunters concluded that he was sitting under a bunch of branches. Rodionych fumbled under it with a stick to drive the hare out to people who stood in a circle. Surprisingly, the animal did not jump out, remarks M. M. Prishvin (“Blue Boots”). An experienced ranger began to go around the rookery in a circle, trying to guess the trick of the cleverest of hares. Where did the bunny hide?
Mikhalych, as hunters called the author, went up to Rodionych. And he quietly showed what a joke came up with Blue Bast. He sits white on white snow at the top of the heap, only his eyes turn black. There are two more small black dots - the tips of the ears.
Rifle completely merged with the snow and no stick can not expel him. The bunny watched the hunters, his head turning one way, then the other. Aiming at him now was worthless. All hunters gathered in one place. At this time, Rodionych blinded the snowball and threw it precisely into the hare. He climbed over a bunch of branches and suddenly fell on top of unsuspecting hunters. An erratic firing began.
Nobody really had time to aim, and meanwhile the bunny rushed into the bushes - they only saw him. Hot people began to shoot at the bushes, but where there.
