The oldest park in the city of Krasnodar is the City Garden, whose history dates back to 1846. Prince Vorontsov M.S., being then commander in chief of the Caucasian corps, with the rank of field marshal, ordered parks to be set up in the largest cities of that time in the southern region: Nalchik, Vladikavkaz and Yekaterinodar.
Park history
After this order, by the beginning of 1848, in the city of Yekaterinodar (now Krasnodar), they were setting up the Army Garden park and allocating a large area of the forest territory under it. In the same year, the authorities signed a contract with the famous landscape designer of that time, the German - Jacob Beckelmeyer. For 6 years of his work, he made the garden a bright, beautiful and best decoration for the city and the whole Kuban, which was known even in distant regions. He brought thousands of vineyards and various decorative trees from the Crimea, and even distributed seedlings for free to anyone who wanted to. Soon, paid attractions were introduced in the park, and a summer cinema was installed.
Reconstruction period
The park was a favorite vacation spot for noblemen. When the civil war broke out and affected the city of Krasnodar, the "City Garden " (by then already renamed the "Military Garden") was severely destroyed, decorative trees and vineyards were completely destroyed. In 1922, reconstruction of the park begins, destroyed trees and grapes are planted anew, while replenishing with rare and valuable specimens.
In 1932, the city council of the city of Krasnodar renamed the City Garden into the M. Gorky park. Before the start of World War II, he again regains its former glory. During the hostilities, the park was burned beyond recognition, almost all plants were destroyed. The buildings located on the territory of the park were completely destroyed, but after the end of the war they began to rebuild it again. Several fountains were installed in the park, trees and shrubs, many flower beds were re-planted.
The park covers an area of 16 hectares, it began to host a large number of dance and concert venues, a pavilion for playing chess, a shooting gallery, various attractions, a playground, and even installed a parachute tower. The park created a zoo and a flower greenhouse.
Difficult period and achievements
The seventies and eighties of the last century were not easy for the park. It underwent many reconstructions and cut its territory several times.
