Ledum in the house. Unusual miracle

Ledum in the house is an unusual miracle. Despite the fact that he became a hero of songs and poems, this flower is not often found in garden areas.

The name "Ledum" comes from the Old Slavonic word "luminaire" or "Poison". The latter term also resembles this plant for its toxic properties. However, this flower is widely used for medical purposes. Therefore, many people want to grow Ledum in the house. But it is better to avoid the appearance of wild rosemary in the house because of its intoxicating smell.

general description

Ledum is an evergreen shrub. Belongs to the heather family and unites about 11 plant species common in our climate zone. On the territory of the Russian Federation, there are only four species of this flower: Greenland, swamp, creeping and large-leaved. The ideal place for this plant is coniferous forests with wetlands. It also grows on peatlands, hills and in the tundra zone.

Despite the fact that the bushes of this plant are not high, not all growers grow up rosemary in the house. The reason for this is not only its unusual properties, but also the branching of bushes, and numerous branches with dense foliage. However, you should not grow Ledum in the house. So say many experts. Although Ledum - a flower is very spectacular, but the plant blooms luxuriantly. Flowers with long stamens have a beautiful, rich white color. But in a small room, rosemary will spread a stupefying and heady smell, which can make you sick and dizzy.

Unique properties of Ledum

The small glands of this plant contain particles of essential oil, which has a rare smell and a burning taste. In addition, particles of essential oil are rich in ice, a substance that contains poison, which adversely affects the nervous system. However, the infusion, aged from marsh ledum, due to its medicinal and healing properties, can be used for bronchitis, whooping cough as a good expectorant.

Also, plant essential oils are widely used in perfumes.

Ledum planting

All of the above types of plants take root well planted in open ground in the garden. The best time for planting is considered the spring period. Although, if the plant has a closed root system, then you can plant it at any time.

Planting pits should have a depth of 35-38 centimeters. You can plant several bushes at a distance of 65 centimeters in order not to wait for many years for the growth of one instance.

Planting soil

These plants take root very well in soil with an acidic environment. Therefore, fill the pit with a mixture of peat, sand and coniferous land. Some varieties of flower can grow on sandy ground. In the soil, add part of a complex mineral fertilizer, and then sow the seeds.

Watering a plant

If Ledum grows on the shore of a reservoir, then in this case, you can water it less often. But in hot and dry summers, the plant must be watered. This should be done at the rate of 4-7 liters of water per plant. After this, the soil can be carefully loosened, since the root system is located close to it.

Propagation and care of the plant

As already described above, ledum is frost-resistant and unpretentious, prefers to grow in moist and shaded places. Fresh leaves of the plant can winter, and closer to autumn, the leaves will turn red and fall off.

This plant propagates by seeds and cuttings.

In the fall, boxes hanging on the rosemary bushes look like miniature chandeliers. The valves of these boxes contain seeds, and the box itself opens in a direction from the bottom up.

Also do not forget to fertilize the plant with mineral fertilizers. You can not cut it. Diseases and pests bypass the rosemary because of its stupefying smell. Therefore, based on the above information, wild rosemary in the house should not be grown. Despite the fact that its flowers are elegant and interesting.
