From simple to complex
Turban - a hat that is traditionally considered to be oriental. Its features are in the method of wrapping a piece of tissue on the head and skillfully forming beautiful folds. You can tie a turban with your own hands in several ways. For residents of the southern regions of the Earth, actions to form a familiar turban on the head have become commonplace and everyday. But in order not to complicate the process, we will try to sew a simple headdress that looks much like a real turban. Such a hat can be used not only as an element of a carnival costume, but also, for example, to replace knitted panamas for small children in the summer. The presented description is most likely suitable for the manufacture of just such a little thing.
DIY turban: essential material
For the manufacture of these turbans use expensive and beautiful fabrics - silk, brocade, etc. Due to the moderate density, the folds are clear and soft at the same time. In addition, these materials keep their shape perfectly. To sew the presented model, you need a thinner fabric. Both fabric and knitted cotton can be used. But it should be borne in mind that it will be quite problematic to iron the finished turban due to the formed folds. Therefore, give preference to non-creasing materials with a small admixture of synthetic fibers.
Cutting products
It is very simple to sew a turban with your own hands. Before work, take measurements to build a template. To do this, using a centimeter tape, determine two distances - the girth of the head and the length from the base of the neck from the back to the upper point of the forehead. Draw a rectangle. Its width will be equal to half the first measure (plus 2 cm for freedom), and the height will be the second (plus 8-10 cm for the splendor of the cap). When cutting, consider the following seam allowances:
- 1-1.2 cm wide on both sides.
- 2.5 cm in the lower horizontal line for bending the product.
The fabric must be folded in half, facing inward. The fold is located on the upper edge of the pattern. As a result, only the sides remain unstitched. In addition, cut out a small rectangle, about 6x8 cm, to shape the front folds on the headdress.
How to sew a turban with your own hands? Work stages
- Sew a creased hem on the front. To do this, fold the small rectangle in half along the side inward and sew along one short and long side, leaving the upper cut free. Turn out and iron.
- At the main part, connect the side seams by inserting the prepared bar from the inside into one of the upper corners (with a non-sewn edge out and flush with the seams).
- Turn out the turban and hem on the bottom edge.
- Turn it towards you with the edge where the trim strip is sewn. Gather the seam into beautiful, identical folds and cover them with the bar from top to bottom. Tighten the braid on the wrong side, leaving about 3-4 cm of the length on the front. Fasten the free end from the wrong side to the edge of the bar in the corner.
- Next, a turban with your own hands is made out from the back of the head. Wrap it with another seam to you. Fold the soft folds and fasten them with a few stitches.
